It happens all the time unfortunately...
Many of these workers are robbed of their passports when arriving (in countries as Qatar and the Emirates you cannot leave the country without the permission of your boss and a stamp on your passport), have to work for less money than promised at home, have to live in realy bad conditions and no one cares if one dies or gets injured.

While in Qatar, I heard someone saying: "Oh well, if they stop working and complain, we can always fire them and open a new can of Indian people..."
And how harsh it sounds, it is reality. These people still earn more money than at home (still a lot less than certain life standards) and if they are fired because they want to complain about the bad working conditions, there are still men who will gladly take their place.

The Indian government should do something about it but I think it is very difficult.

The tower is expected to officially open before Christmas 2008.
The world's tallest building is planning to launch in style with a glitzy bash to ring in the New Year, according to the tower's project director.

Speaking exclusively to Arabian Business, George Sang revealed that on December 31 next year the Burj Dubai will host a massive New Year's Eve party to celebrate the tower's completion.

He said the tower is expected to officially open before Christmas 2008.

Sang remained tight-lipped over the height of Burj Dubai. Estimates range from 700-1000 metres, with many speculating the final height will be around 808 metres.

Cladding of the building in reflective glass began seven weeks ago, so Dubai residents are finally beginning to see the gleaming needle that the tower will eventually become. (arabianbusiness.com)
I hope they don't rush things and screw shit up.

btw, DMSL = Dubai Mean Sea Level ... not any language hehe...

out of curiousity, do you happen to know the Dubai Municipality Level and the Dubai Mean Sea Level for Dancing Tower plot?
The Dubai Mean sea level is +3.44m and the Dubai Municipality Level is +1.31m, those figure will be the same for both Burj Dubai and the Dancing Towers plot.

Yes, 40mm is a very small settlement for a build of this size

Also, +1.31m is also the datum for Al Burj

Sky: domain names don't get "removed" like that. There are arbitrations for that, so unless you got a DMCA yourself as the host and didn't comply, there's no reason for DNS registration to be taken down. In any case you're the first to have the name of the plaintiffs.

His numbers have always been different than the official numbers. I say just go by the official numbers. It's better to underestimate than overestimate.

Hi all.

MetalliTool - Culwulla has been here a long time. I'm sure there is a good reason he is asking Skytower - AND NOT YOU.

Here is some interesting info showing level heights and skipped levels. It is from the old 705 version but it is accurate up to over level 100.
It shows 141 skipped but it is 137 by looking at the structure.
So as I have said before ( nice to get confirmation ) skipped levels :
41, 74, 110, and 137.

Also - the level between the raft and level B2 is 2.05 meters. Not inhabitable and I have always called it 1/2 height. Close ...
Thanx again Skytower for all the bitchin info.

There was never anything wrong with the DNS...I even did an authoritative dig while the site was down, and DNS worked flawlessly. Just the pages were missing. Not sure why on earth we would get a fake story about DNS being down...probably just to make for an interesting story.

Cladding progession update (based on Imre's shots):

7/[email protected]>7/[email protected]: 38 panels
7/[email protected]>7/[email protected](6-8h??): 19 panels
7/18#(6-8h??)->7/[email protected](12-15h??): 63 panels

7/[email protected](12-15h??)->7/21: 48+/-2 panels
7/21 -> 7/22: 26+/-1 panels
7/22 -> 7/25: 156 panels !

7/25 -> 7/27: 91 panels !
7/27 -> 7/30: 90 panels

overall panels added: 531
days accounted for: 14
avg panel installation rate: >37 panels/day
last 2 days panel inst. rate: 30 panels/day
tendency (last 2 days vs. total): decreasing

Does W/E have impact on cladding... good question .

With big thanks to Imre as usual !

Vincent.

I don't consider the Burj Dubai an Dubai tower...

It was designed by Europeans and Americans and built by South Asian Labor...
