That's correct, they are the thicker parts of the floorplates that will have the rounded part extended outwards once the setback below catches up to it. When the mech floor is finished below it there should be either one large or two small concrete pillars that will support the outer edge of the construction and the floor slabs poured over the top and extended outwards, integrating the rounded core wall and supporting the one above it. This is how they will transfer the loads of that section to the re-enforced transfer beams on the last level of mechanical floors below it. I believe those jagged sections which we're seeing at the moment are not poured, but pre-stressed, pre-assembled sections that tie into the core wall through steel tie bars and are completely self supporting. The outer edges to be extended later will need supporting by the column below it, and will be marginally thinner to save weight. There are many other instances of floorplate weight saving throughout this building's construction on all levels.

Agreed, they're still some 20 levels away from reaching that part, with two more setbacks to go, there's lots more concreting to go yet!

Well they can pump that height, just not in one go. They can easily re-pump beyond 800m and hopper to anything above that! The reason why the transition from concrete to steel at this point is not logistical, nor economical. It's purely to do with the flexibility the structure will need to have at these heights and with these wind loads for an ever decreasing structure.
With much less compression above it and a need for torsional movement, steel becomes the ideal candidate for the job that is required of it. (Also, as these levels are not residential, there's also not much need to curb these movements!) Concrete only has a certain retainable compression strength within small lateral movement levels before it's performance becomes unquantifiable. Steel provides the flexibility required and a dramatic reduction in weight to it's concrete equivalent.

this is from burjdubaiskyscraper
A new final height figure popped up, 818m. It could just be another number, or the extended version of 808m by a 10m higher pinnacle. The cladding will probably start on the 4th week of this month
were did they get 818m from. and facade is starting in june not the 4th week of tis month right ?

But they are these bits! I'm 100% certain.
Haven't you noticed they're building this on the side that setbacks First each time. They are this part - they match the shape exactly. You can even see them on the floorplan I included of floor 125 - the floor they're working on!!!
The other 2 sides will eventually look like this - but NOT for another 15 - 40 floors!
Remember the setbacks occur later and later each time! But this is what they're going to look like.
There's only 34 concrete floors to go (all be it nice tall floors) - which doesn't sound like much. Then they'll be at floor 160 - the top of the main concrete.

Until we heard something of the facade, now we know that maybe in the 4th week of may will start.

Thank you Andrian Smith fan for the information.

Don't be stupid....there's 214 floors in this thing!

How about a great big HD rendering to shut you up!

http://www.worldarchitecturenews.com...0rendering.jpg

The steel section should start after the conctrete footing pinnacle between L159-L164....and we're no way near that yet!
That's when the steel goes up to L206 where the levels are only 8m accross (bigger than most peoples houses) and another 12-14 un-inhabitable staircase levels to L214-L216 before the pinnacle!

1011m anyone?

Ok, take a good look at the HD render and it matches exactly with the floor height figures I posted in October last year!

Levels 123-124 are 6m high each (split level ob deck!)
Levels 125-135 are 4.0m high
Level 136 is 4.8m high
Levels 137-139 mech floors are 5.0m high
Levels 140-149 are 4.8m high
Levels 150-153 are 5.5m high
Levels 154-185 are 5.0m high
Levels 186-206 are 6.0m high
Levels 207-216 are 4.2m high
Pinnacle is 110m high!

Lets assume EMAAR's current height are right (which they're not!) The discrepancy from datum ground to L1 is 15.2m in variation!

You have 442m (current height)
+12m
+40m
+4.8m
+15.0m
+43.2m
+16.5m
+155.0m
+120m
+37.8m
+110

Add all that together and you get a height of 996.3m

Now add the 15.2m discrepancy between EMAAR's figures and my GPS one's and you get 1011.5m

Well 1,011 will be a dream, but even "just" 808 would be enough.

A.S.F, I am so going to enjoy rubbing your face in it when it goes well beyond 808m!
If it's within 10m of being 808m I will personally buy you a ticket to Dubai and I'll buy you lunch, then we'll go to the ob-deck and look at all the little people down there!
