I think it is better to get used to the building slowly by looking at it every month. If you see this building over a year it is almost finished and you pass out of amasament.

braking news

Burj Dubai plans New Year's Eve launch

The world's tallest building is planning to launch in style with a glitzy bash to ring in the New Year, according to the tower's project director.

Speaking exclusively to Arabian Business, George Sang revealed that on December 31 next year the Burj Dubai will host a massive New Year's Eve party to celebrate the tower's completion.

He said the tower is expected to officially open before Christmas 2008.

Sang remained tight-lipped over the height of Burj Dubai. Estimates range from 700-1000 metres, with many speculating the final height will be around 808 metres.

Cladding of the building in reflective glass began seven weeks ago, so Dubai residents are finally beginning to see the gleaming needle that the tower will eventually become.

By the way i read a part in the newspaper today about working circumstances in Dubai. And it is realy bad. There are over 1.2 miljon workers in United Emirates, and from those workers the biggest part works in Dubai.
They get paid 6 times higher then in thier home country's, but they work 6 days a week! And they have nothing else to do then sleep and work. And they sleep in barracs outside the city.
And they also don't see their family's for years. It all seems so beautifull if you read this topic, but in reality it is a hard job.
I also read that many of the workers commit suicide. I think i can imagine that, because if you only work an sleep you really get crazy.
moh during schooltime I study and work 7 days a week with only 30 minutes sparetime a day, it's the price you'll have to pay if you want to earn a lot of money. When those workers go back in India they'll come in a higher social class and there children get better education. But I'll agree that the working and living conditions for those peopleare horrible in Dubai.

No way it will be opening this year. I'd bet that's an old press release.

Next year. That's just less than a year and a half from now.

It'll be tight, but I suppose they could do it. Maybe the spire won't be raised, or maybe the upper floors wont' be completely clad, but they can open the building. That's all they're claiming.
