Just found this on www.burjdubaiskyscraper.com, it was already posted here before, I think Fury is the author?

It shows clearly where new setbacks start. 148 is already new core setback on another side and 152 the only remaining side reconfigures. Floor 155 is than the last concrete one and from 156 on steel section starts. Here is the list showing the setback till the top.

Top occupied floor is over 600 metres

A 200m Spire...
With that it's not an impressive work to build higher than 1000m...
Just put a 500m Spire on the CS and it'll be the world tallest...
We should leave out the spires, like antennas to determine a towers height!!

Thanks. I was working from the diagram here:

http://www.burjdubaiskyscraper.com/2...section3bj.jpg.

This might be an older plan but it clearly shows what I had been talking about. Anyway, sounds like you have the more up-to-date set of plans. Thanks!

That diagram is 5 versions old from February 2005.

With reference to Al Burj, each of these 3 spire sections will be wider than the CS Tower which is classed as a structure....they will even have their own podium sections and will have their own swimming pools in the sky! (if it's anything like the last design)

Remember, the last render was approximately 120m wide at the base....and still 120m wide at 700m. The last renders were stretched 500m more to 1200m, so that would be 120m wide still at 1km.

That's one big ass building......anyway, back to the Burj of the now......

It is part of the architecture and the form of the building as a whole - it would be like the Empire State or Chrysler buildings without their spires. The US would have been up in arms if that would have been suggested when those were at the top of the heap. On the other hand, some of the 'spires' should really just be considered antennas, such as on the Freedom Tower (irrespective of if it will be used for a signal or not). Those guys would certainly have gone to 1776m by increasing the height of their spire / antenna (IF they could).

Do remember that the top occupied floor is over 600m on the burj dubai, so while the CS is impressive, it still falls short irrespective of how you cut it.

However

But remember that the Chicago Spire will be the tallest all residential building. That is quite impressive.

Not quite, the tallest fully residential building proposed in Dubai is the pentominium which is just over 500m.
