Asian labourers

Al Jazeera exposes the appalling conditions facing many Asian labourers in the Gulf.... move it to other relevant threads.

Back to topic, I really love this BD. The concrete section alone of this giant has already snatch the title of World Tallest Free-Standing Structure from CN, which have hold that record for more than 3 decades. Another 232m of steel structure atop of this height? Speechless!

anyway Cul just a question to point out for ur digram

Shouldnt Lvl148 be 546m instead of 550m?
yes, ill change figure. yeah the highest conrete structure was the space pod in CN Tower which is 460m high. BurD passed that a while back.the tallest concrete structure besides CN is 420m Russian chimney. Burjds 586m really craps on any concrete structure before.

Of course, if the guy quoted in post 5938 knows what he's talking about, the concrete will go higher than we think.

Let's not turn this thread into rants about dubai, etc.
The guy started a thread with this feature (which is excellent IMO) here. Please use that

Really Big Things is back in Dubai with a feature on "man-made islands". I know you all complain about the host, but hopefully we'll get some good video. It's on right now and I'm sure it will re-air later tonight.

80m more... So about 610m of concrete. That'd be great! 24 meters more than we previously thought, right?

Hi all.

Here is something I've been working on for some time. I call it my construction slideshow. The shots are all from near the same angle - West to Southwest. They are as close as I could get to monthly - from early to July '07. I haven't picked out an August shot yet. I will post thumbs as some are large - click to see full size.

05 06 05 09 05 10 05 11 06 01 06 02

06 03 06 04 06 05 06 06 06 07 06 08

06 09 06 10 06 11 06 12 07 01 07 02

07 03 07 04 07 05 07 06 07 07

Enjoy.
