516m Pentominium - Dubai
510m Lotte World Tower - Busan
500m The Constellation - The Middle East
500m Nanjing Lu Supertall - Tianjin
500m Shanghai Center - Shanghai
The Incheon Towers should actually be listed ahead of the Chicago Spire, as they are 2001' and not 2000' (though both round to 600m).

I'm amazed at how long this list is. For perspective, each of these is wayyyyy taller than the Sears Tower!

it seems anything shorter that 500metres is classed as "short".

This is history in the making. So, when will it surpass CN Tower? Any thoughts?

edit: what about the elevator system? does anybody have a sketch or something? positions of skylobbies, etc.?

Yah buddy lol all u want, we had the record for over 30 years and cities are just getting in the game now. I like the Burj don't get me wrong but this ain't no laughing matter, this is a spectacular milestone not only for Dubai but for the World so go back to your farm in Columbus and hope one day your city builds a 100 meter tower pylon.

Whooooaaa.... That was an uneducated attempt at a blow.

By the way, is your avatar the CN Tower getting screwed by another building? It's not the Burj, is it!?

Absolutely. Back in 1975, most places had nothing close to the CN Tower, and that is why it will remain special well beyond September when the BD takes over. Just look at pictures back 10 or 15 years of Dubai, let alone 32 years, to see how far ahead the CN Tower was. Oh, and BTW, the CN Tower was built by Canadians working for a Canadian construction company.

Columbus, eh'? Perhaps uncalled for, but very funny irrespective!

I was going write a thread here defending the CN Tower - but it doesn't need it. Nor does the Burj Dubai, which is more than welcome to its foreseeably temporary, entirely wonderful claim to being 'World's Tallest'.

It's only right that people who care about buildings - even something as obvious as their height (which I crassly, joyously do!) - have some personal feelings and thoughts, as the structures that have meant a lot to them by this measure are surpassed. No need to laugh at those who have loved what they have been fortuitously gifted with by setting and circumstance. For people who love empirical achievement, the construction of the Burj partakes of the same sort of joy present upon seeing the building of the CN Tower in its day. Remember this as your own icons are surpassed in turn - if you are lucky enough to be in a place that has provided you with any to admire.
