Dom-

Not broken, I think. If you looks six floors down, you can see that the reflection of the elevator looks about the same. There must be something reflected there that we can't see.

By the way, I love how reflective it is in bright sunlight!

Crappy attempt at showing what the setback would look like.

Dubai is a huge business center, as well as a hot spot for tourism, thanks to the skyscraper explosion, among other things.

There may be certain percentages that upstream are a result of oil revenue, however, it is important to note that tourism contributes more to Dubai's GDP than does oil. This inverse relationship trend, increasing % based on tourism and decreasing % based on oil, has been on-going for some time. The comment about the UAE running out of oil within a few decades is accurate, and that is precisely why they have been re-inventing themselves over the last decade.

It's also a major port due to it's strategic locality.

Quote

"The facilities for trade and free enterprise were enough to make Dubai a natural haven for merchants because in 1901, Sheikh Maktoum bin Hasher Al Maktoum established Dubai as a free port, abolished all tariffs and began a program to persuade merchants from other cities to set up in Dubai. These people were mostly of distant Arab origin and Sunni, unlike most Persians, and naturally looked across to the Arab shore of the Gulf finally making their homes in Dubai. At the same time a large Indian popualtion also made Dubai there home. By the 1930's the population was nearing 25,000 people and many were from countries from around the world.
Dubai's cosmopolitan contracts was the basis of rapid growth of wealth as well as population. At this point the economy was based on trade as well as products from the gulf especially fish and the very lucrative pearl trade. At this point Dubai was being known as a trading city and this flow of money gave the city an early start in development before the beginning of oil production in the late 1960s. "

Dubai also tried to dip it's fingers in half of New York's pie.

So Dubai runs out of oil and switches to tourism ... And the tourists, how are they going to go to Dubai without oil?

That question doesn't even make any sense.
