Very soon. I am almost 100% that is already L149, so only one floor to go. Maybe the end of this week or next week.

seen from 100km (60 miles) away.

I have read a couple times it should be possible to see the tip of the spire from 100km away. Here is a reference: http://www.natashatynes.org/newswire...ubai-now-.html

and I though it would be interesting to plot the 100km on a UAE map..
Here is the original map : http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/middl...b_emirates.jpg

So depending on topography ofcourse if you live within or are on a vessel it should be possible to see the tip within this range.

in theory you can but in fact, with the atmospher and the pollution I don't think you can see the bj from 100km.

No you can't see the Burj. This 100 km only takes into consideration the earth curvature into accountand not other facts like the visibility requirements in terms of dimensions and and other factors that limit visibility.

Look at the pictures of the burj from... lets say the palm islands. You can see the conture but there is barely any contrast to the athmosphere around it... at a even longer distance i guess u wont be able to see it.

It sounds that way by chance that is....
I took a peak at google maps and the topography seems prommising, but as a couple people have pointed out the air quality may be the site seer's worst enemy.

google maps, from Dubai to Oman border : http://maps.google.com/maps?f=s&ie=U...&t=k&z=11&om=1

On a clear February day when it's around 22C, I'm sure you'll get fantastic visibility if the wind is coming from the North (no dust)

It's far too hot at the moment for any kind of good long range visibility!

On a clear day the best views will be from the tower itself...I can't wait to see for myself!

I think when it's a nice day with no rain or fog and you are standing on a high mountain/tower you can see the Burj, because otherwise you have all kinds of hills!

5. Taipei 101, Taipei, Taiwan - 509m.
Still 101m to become world's tallest structure ever built. Will they reach Warsaw radio mast level next year?

In theory, you would see the tip disappear below the horzon at 102km. But if you check weather.com, you will see that visibility rarely exceeds 50km in Dubai -- 25km is probably close to the average visibility
