better start writing a list of where interesting things are located. No matter which page or thread

I think it would be an over-kill for Burj Dubai, unless the air/wind pressure up there is extreme.
Its uncommon in use because of the price factor.
There are more and more products that take advantage of composite materials. I'm an active member of the Vehicle Design Summit, a project in which up to 50 university teams design and build a low cost 200 MPG (1,2 liter/100 km) vehicle, targeted for mass production in 2009. Extremely interesting project, that shows the enormous possibilities of composite materials in comparison to steel.

Well, that depends: the strength depends on the direction of the fibers, used in composite materials. And composites can only handle this kind of stress via tension, not via pressure.

ok, i am really fed up with this building. I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed this, but it is an exact rip off the A Frank Lloyd Wright building he envisioned in Chicago called The Illinois, however it never got built. Look at it!

Aren't you forgetting that every first post of the thread always have very detailed presentation and diagram of that particular project?

If its not in the first page of the lastest thread, then its probably outdated/inaccurate or the newer one have already supersede them

And i hv 10 threads, i only need to scroll for 10 posts, and that is the every first post of each of this thread

I wish there was a way to choose reading 200 posts per page rather than being limited to 25. A non skyscraper related forum I visit has 200 posts per page as an option and it works wonders. It also seems to use the same V-bulletin format that this forum uses.

I got off topic here but I'm not sure where else to voice this.

yes its been noted a few times. the Burj Dubai architect Adrian Smith is a big fan of Frank l wright and he pays homage to it not only in design but height. He wanted to make this tower approx half the height of the Illinois (1mile/1609m) thus is half a mile @ 804.5m. so Burj Dubai is little higher then half a mile which is a great attempt. if you look at the floor layout of the Illinois, its actually nothing like Burj Dubais.
the Illionois was never going to be built when it was proposed all those years ago. It was just a vision.

Even better, he builds the models of all these buildings so has to know every detail for all of them.

When you have such a close relationship with them, the knowledge of it's history kinda rubs off I guess?

Nice to be back James. Exciting times. By Sunday UAE time, according to the timeline by Samsung, BD would have officially passed the CN Tower to be world's tallest freestanding structure.

After that it is just guywired masts. Next on the horizon is top of concrete and then it is the 2000 ft barrier to bust. For myself personally the most significant feat for BD is the surpassing of the CN Tower.

Lotta fun, lotta fun
