This project is INCREDIBLE!

My only worry is that, considering the project is so massive, I feel that some of the little details will be left out. For example, look at the pics of the bridge. I wish they'd paint the ornamentation and details on the bridge a different shade than the rest of the structure, to give it some distinction. I have the same complaint about the Dubai Waterfront. With the exception of the glass towers, it is very monotone.

Other than that, this project is amaizing. The lake is going to be beautiful as well. It is rather shallow, but considering they're laying down aqua-colored pool lining, it's going to look gorgeous when water is added!

Oh yea, and only 5 more floors of concrete till we see some steel rising on top of this beast!

I think cladding above 3rd mechanical floors will start soon after those three wings below 4th mechanical floors are completed. The protection panels were dismantled from one as seen on the pics. The lower one is there for months already, I really don`t know what they are doing so long. The upper one has only one or two floors to rise. By NYE we will have A LOT of glass on

Some interesting facts about the Burj on www.arabianbusiness.com.

The tip of the spire can be seen 95km away with the naked eye.

An estimated 330,000m of cement, 39,000t of steel rebar and 142,000m of glass will be used in the construction of the Burj Dubai.

22 million man-hours will go into building the world's tallest landmark.

The foundation slab is 80,000ft in size, while the piling is 50m deep.

The Burj Dubai's observatory lifts (double deck cabs) will have the world's longest travel distance from the lowest to the highest stop.

The Burj Dubai will set the record for the world's highest lift installation.

A condensate collection system will collect condensed water from the hot and humid air and will use it for irrigation requirements across the tower gardens. This will provide around 15 million gallons of additional water a year, equivalent to 20 Olympic-sized swimming pools.

The curtain wall of the Burj Dubai will be equivalent to 17 soccer fields or 25 American football fields.

The concrete used for the Burj Dubai is equivalent to a 1900km long pavement.

The Burj Dubai has a computerised central service system from Germany to analyse the building's stability to withstand natural elements.

Reflective glass on all the building's floors will provide protection from sunlight at the same time as making the building's interiors cooler.

It will also feature the world's fastest elevator, rising and descending at 18m per second or 65 kmph. The world's current fastest elevator is in the Taipei 101 office tower in Taiwan. It travels at 16.83m per second or 60.6kmph.

Amazing view. I didn't realise how fast the cladding has been going up. Last time I saw a picture of it it only covered about 4 floors.

Wow, this cladding is so mirror-like, I'm afraid we won't be able to see the Burj once it's all dressed-up!!

Seriously though, the surpassing of the CN Tower is cause for celebration. I don't doubt at all that this building will carry the title just as gracefully as she did for thirty-odd years.

CN Tower eclipsed by Dubai building

The CN Tower's 31-year run as the planet's tallest free-standing structure is finally over.

The Burj Dubai - a fast-rising skyscraper in the oil-rich United Arab Emirates - has officially surpassed Toronto's famous 553-metre landmark on its way to an expected final height of some 800 metres.

"The Burj Dubai tower has now reached 555.3 metres, and also scaled 150 livable levels, the largest number of storeys for any building in the world," the project's developer, Emaar Properties, announced Thursday.

"This architectural and construction masterpiece is truly an inspirational human achievement that celebrates the can-do mindset of Dubai," added Emaar's chairman Mohamed Alabbar. "Burj Dubai is setting new world records in construction of super-tall buildings, and the accomplishment of being the world's tallest free-standing structure is another defining moment for the multinational team of over 5,000 people who are using their collective intelligence to make this iconic structure a symbol of human achievement."
