Why are you so worried about OD's height? There's not much to look at, just the desert.

no height increase in new pics... i assume they will take down the second crane soon... i think each floor will take about 4/5 days to do then.

Yes, 2nd crane will go down when L152 starts I think. Also wings and cladding have great progress. Looks like they will fill the lake soon. Those tanks look like some kind of filters?

Hmmm, as distinguished as BD might appear, its neighbourhood looks crappy. It just looks -uhm- so American.

Sorry, but i am not sure what is the uses of mechanical floors really lol

Can anyone enlighten me?

Mechanical floor is a floor for all mechanical/electrical heavy equipment such as Pumps, Heat exchangers, boilers, Chillers, Air Handling Units, Transformers and control panel ... blah blah blah

It is for A/C of the builiding (Pumps for chilled water, Chillers of the water, Air handling unit to cool the air) and for installation of Fire Pumps to serve the Fire Fighting system and for Tanks and so on for Water Supply, Drainage (Plumbing system in general) etc...

These equipment can not be installed in each floor since they contain of Loops... For example each 15 floor or 20 etc (according to the design) is a loop needs separate pumps and some other mechanical or electrical equipment.

That is why you find many mechanical floors at any skyscraper which means the number of loops in the skyscraper. They deal with each loop as separate building since no pump to serve over than 700 M for sure plus it will be impossible for maintenance if you depend on one running pump and even if there is a stand buy one still not enough since if you want to stop the water at any level, you should stop the pump which servers whole the tower.

Anyway there is no pump head to serve such burj like burj dubai but I explained the point of dividing the building into loops just to show the need of this dividing for maintenance and for the limited availavle head of the mechanical equipment.

For electrical equipment, it is the same sure you have to divide it too for troubleshooting in case if you want to shut off the electricity at any floor, you do not have to shut it off completely from the building plus also we have to keep in mind the limited power which any control panel can cover.

the pictures are just... Thanks Imre, you're getting better and better!

Something just cleared up to me: I always wondered why there is no rebar visible to connect the core and the wings... but now I know... in one of the videos they mentioned that the wings are like columns carrying the weight of the upper floors... because of that the wings are not connected to the core and structurally independent until they reach their final height and then there are these huge steel beams to connect them with the core which you can see here http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/5...lt39hk0.th.jpg ...Aaaaahhhhaaaaa... a big light bulb moment to me!
