This is an amazing graph. Also it is very interesting to note the impact of world recessions on the construction of large buildings. In particular, the impact of the great depression/WW2 and the recessions of the mid/late 70s and early 80s.

Excellent night shots.

It's intesting to now wich continent will have more skyscrapers in the future. And Asia is going to be that continent if the US doesn't do something to change contructions height limit it will loose its own place in the mega tall towers.

what's with the stairstep on the graph? are you just truncating the lower bounds of the data? And why do you chose to do it at those years?

That is the 4th time (at least) that same picture has been posted in the last 3 pages.

What is the point in reposting the same pictures with the word 'wow' or 'great shot' underneath them ?

Same with that graph - that's already been posted twice on the same page

On other forums this is unacceptable spamming .. why do the mods allow this to happen ? It makes reading a thread twice as time consuming.

Eversendai wins RM50mil job for Burj Dubai steel structure

By M. KRISHNAMOORTHY

KUALA LUMPUR: A Malaysian company has bagged a RM50mil contract to build the steel structure for the 150-storey Burj Dubai, which will be the world’s tallest building when completed.

Eversendai Engineering group managing director Datuk A. K. Nathan said work on the structures would begin next week.

“We are proud to be involved in building the world’s tallest building. In the construction business, our reputation is as good as our last project.

“We may have the capability but I always remind my colleagues that it does not end with getting the project and they should not compromise on safety and quality,” he told StarBiz.

The company’s famous landmarks in Malaysia are Petronas Tower 2, the KLCC Suria, Kuala Lumpur Tower, Telekom Tower, KLIA Airport, KL Sentral Station and Putrajaya Convention Centre.

“We have come a long way and has done so well. What is most heartening is that the clients we have worked with always come back and tell us that we are doing something right,” said Nathan.

The Burj Dubai is accessible via a series of double-decker elevators and the building’s three-sided design tower will ascend in a series of stages.

“We are taking extra precaution and there will be no compromise on workmen safety.

“We will be the first to work on a structure above 553 metres as we will be building the structural steel work to the final height,'' he said.

Eversendai started off as a structural steel erection company in 1984.

Besides beating the Taipei Tower, which stands at 508 metres tall, Burj Dubai will also be considerably taller than the CN tower in Toronto, Canada, which stands at 553 metres tall.

Doesn't really indicated any height where the steel structure might start.

I'm am still placing my bet on 604.9m for steel structure to take over completely

Yea from 1936 to 46 jumps out at you, and the recessions of the mid/late 70s and early 80s. and after about 1992 N America has almost fallen off the chart.

It's amazing looking at that graph how many buildings have been built in Australia. For it's size it sure has a lot of skyscrapers.

It's also amazing how big a step-up Burj Dubai is in height from the rest of the other buildings. It's a 200m+ difference to the next tallest Russia Tower and then Chicago Spire.

btw What is the estimate of when the concrete section of the building will be completed?

According to the plan the concrete section covered all the way including L155 or 585.7m, that should take up to 23 oct at the latest

however since rumor has spread that it can go up to L159, probably 604.9m (as can see in my siggy), i think for that it will goes into november.

Would you be so kind and post it or make a rough drawing of it?

for posting use: www.imageshack.us

http://www.burjdubaiskyscraper.com/2...arak-Tower.jpg

is it one of those towers?
Thanks for that...no it's none of those. It looks very similar to the one that Culwulla pointed out. It is a perfect cone shape. But it is very clearly 1001m on the renders and elevations. I thought maybe you guys would know about it already, but since you don't, I imagine it is still in the 'confidential' category.

You would understand that I can't post the drawings or renders as I don't want to get fired. Oh well, I will keep an ear out and see if I find out any more. The drawings and renders are up all over the walls in one of our main meeting rooms and I keep asking people 'do you know what that big tower is...who is working on it?' and no-one seems to know. But there are a lot of people in this office, so I'll continue my detective work!

Sorry for the distraction...onwards with the Burj!
