The structural steel work for Burj Dubai is set to begin next week, claimed by the managing director of the winning bidder, Eversendai. The 14,588,750 $ contract has been signed by the Malaysian company which has worked on such as projects as: Petronas Tower 2, the KLCC Suria, Kuala Lumpur Tower, Telekom Tower, KLIA Airport, KL Sentral Station and Putrajaya Convention Centre. There are 14 new night shots of Burj Dubai and the Old Town, by Old Town Resident

For example, when was the Japan Yen or the Swiss Franc ever worth more than the US $? For that matter, when did the British Pound Sterling ever dip below the US$ ???
It is a matter of relative trending - I did mention the appreciation of 50% of the Canadian dollar over the last 6-7 years, yes? The falling US dollar is a direct result of other countries not bailing the US out - that is fact. You can't attract them as your interest rate is too low. You can't raise it because of your debt situation. It is a slippery slope, and you've just passed the crest of mount everest (or the edge of the building as others might say)!

With respect to the other guy complaining of not being able to sell trees - get over it. Canadian gov issued yet another surplus yesterday. I live in Alberta - home of the second largest oil reserves in the world. Land of zero debt and surpluses!

Can we PLEASE get back to talking of the Burj Dubai? Thank-you.

Every week that passes this place gets more amazing. I managed to get into the Souk Al Bahar today and the Palace Hotel that opens 1st October. Every corner I turned was just another architectural surprise.

No sign of any steelwork being stored in the vicinity as yet.

I will post other pics of Old Town and Palace on the Old Town Forum.

Burj Dubai Lake.
Although green in appearance the water is crystal clear.

Found it today on a Swedish site about finance and economy. They took a helicopter ride above Dubai. They actually write about Dubai pretty often but never anything that would be considered as news in this forum.
www.e24.se

Yes! it will be removed, but I was surprised not to see any of the steelwork being stored around the Burj base.

The US economy was very strong when Clinton was president and they weren't building many skyscrapers then. I agree economics is a major factor, but imagine if US companies could pay construction workers $2.50/day like they do in Dubai, I think you'd see a huge boom in construction even in this weak economy, it'd be so much easier to make a profit off a building.
