here we are, pretty confident burj is to be capped at ~818m and still seeing no sign of the steel structure. How good would it be if the height really was a well guarded secret and the building just keeps rising?

Are you sure they're going to use composite? Composite like they're using on the Boeing 787?

As for the helicopter doesn't that seem pretty expensive?

Here for the benefit of those who still don't really know or believe, the steel structure is suppose to start on 6 oct, which is today.

I hope that really explain everything.

If they did start I see no reason to extend the crane

Why can't you guys believe that it will go higher?

I remember very clearly an article from the official claiming that concrete section has approx 80m more to go when BD was still at 520m+ at that time, I remember that portion very clearly

Because from the renders it looks like they stretched it as much as they could. If they extend the top portion any more, it'll look unproportional. But we'll find out soon, so no point in arguing.

Hi all.

Here is some more of the 10,000 line schedule. Everything from soup to nuts - 10,000 lines ! Remember this has been revised for the steel section since it came out in March '07. It is only revised for the upper spire and pinnacle by the looks of it though. Also remember the dates are estimates from March.

The first number is how many days, then percentage completed, disregard the D number, estimated start date, and last the estimated finish date.

I hope this helps clear up some stuff. So ... some finishing in Aug. 2009 ...
Here is a portion of the revised schedule graph.

Enjoy.

I can't believe it has still got just under 2 years before it is finished.

I suppose all our questions of final height will be answered by then.

Let us all stand back and appreciate the next 2 years. Another Worlds Tallest may not happen in a while (ten years at least definite).

I'm just glad that I found SSC at this time as well.

Just an informed guess but there are surely many different kinds of composite. The time is right to innovate.

Composites are made to withstand tension, not pressure, from what I know.

HEY GUYS, im back from h0lidays. BD is looking awesome.thanks for old town resident for latest updates and Fury for others.
ill post a diagram update next week.should be weird when it turns into steel structure. much like SWFC. love the artificial lake . automatically turned into tropical location.
just amazing.
fyi- the construction from lev154 to 160 will be concrete/steel frame combo. (although lev154-156 will mostly reinforced concrete).
model of crane/steel section

the highest slab of concrete will be lev162 or 624m/ tier18.
this is mezzanine number 3 for 160th floor.
it will also have a dampner.

This is where i call the MAIN ROOF of Burj Dubai.

thats about as high as Dakota mast.!
old diagram>

good read about wind testing on BD.

Steel and Concrete combo to be 154-160? That is alot

However did anyone see any reinforced steel at all on the top today? Today is suppose to start work on L154

Anyway Cul if that is the case, does it mean that nothing changes much and the height still remain as it is, 818m?

These are the best shots I could get of the top that would maybe show some signs of structural columns, beams etc between the concrete floors, but nothing in sight, and you would expect a column to at least protrude above the floor below if it was in place?

I will be down that way in the morning and will keep an eye on crane movement etc, but for me with nothing to see being stored, hoisted or erected and I have been around the site for a few hours over the last few days, nothing has started as yet with the steel erection in my opinion.

That would just mean steel structure is not yet up, I was thinking steel coming in at only L156 and above, hence the combo might just be L156-159 instead?

The best way to know if the overall height of the entire BD been increased will depend on how tall does T15 extend, meaning at the reconfiguration of L156 is the most vital portion at this point, not the material used at that level. If there is no core setback at L156, I am betting a 99% chance that BD will be higher than 818m.
