[QUOTE=Adrian Smith fan;13107622]
Even the Burj Dubai could be toppled from the world's-tallest title soon after its completion, set for June 2009. A second skyscraper just a few doors down along the Dubai waterfront -- the Al-Burj --

Culwulla: great picture by Tommy Zion. So 5th may or 7th may, as written in the copyright ?

We can see the core reconfiguration on the right side. The wall is retracting just before the last floor. . And one new setback, one !.

Here is a new version of my comparison. This time the photo is taken from upper, further, and the optical distortion in the setback correspondance seems less.

I also made the correspondance in a different way (trying to think about the center and borders, more precise), resulting in the building on the left appreaing bigger, when in reality it has one less floor than the one on the right.

That would raise down the lower estimate, to probably around 850 meters or a bit less.

That is still a pessimistic matching.

One has to note that the rendering can also be off, and maybe on purpose .

I really don't think going from 850-940m estimate of this rendering to a 1011m is THAT hard. It's adding 71 to 160 meters, of a very thin and lightweight structure. By no means that's an impossible feat and it has been done before (Chrysler, NYtimes, Petronas...). It wouldn't put that much additional stress on the structure.
The three setbacks of concrete core reduction could additionnally be spaced a little further apart, or their height increased. That would fit nicely withe the progression of setbacks under them...

We have to note that given the parabolic shape of the building, a big height difference can be made with a very slight curvature change.

What i don't understand about this building is that the concrete pillars on the 4th floor are (looking at the huge picture above) as big as the pillars on the ( for example ) 124th floor?
The pillars on the 4th floor have much more weight to carry then those on the 124th floor. And i also don't understand that concrete can carry that huge weight. Which sort of concrete are they using for this building. It mus be able to handle huge pressure!?
