There are a number of options for you.

You could fly to Dubai and take some pictures.

or

You could fly to Dubai and fix Imre's car so he can go take pictures.

or

You could fly to Dubai and do Altin's job for a day so he can go take pictures.

but all of the options include flying to Dubai. Unless of course you are already there and then you have no excuse to not take them yourself

If I had to guess, I would say probably a moderator deleted that flame war you were involved in a few days ago.
If I were you, I wouldn't think much about post counts, because then you will end up posting too much stuff that annoys people.

So Imre's car is broken? I thought Toyotas don't brake down, only VW POS do ...

BTW a friend of mine works for a company that will supply some materials for the top part. He was saying that Auto CAD drawings just supplied to them were the same with what he has seen a year ago, which propaably were even older.

Looks like 800m version. Remember that it is farther away than the lighthouse...

Well he didn't exactly say it was broken, just that it was in "service" so maybe he was getting a once a decade oil change or something. At any rate, he says he'll be up and running again tomorrow.

thanks
I have always wondered why such a thick raft seems to be necessary for highrises in Dubai. 4 meters of concrete! The only reason I can think of is a very uneven load from the building itself, that needs to be distributed evenly across the piles.
But still I know of no other building elsewhere that has such a thick concrete floor. Does anyone have an explanation?

The Petronas Towers also have a raft nearly as thick due to the Kenny Hill soil in the area - a soft limestone and sand mixture that apparently isn't the best foundation for very tall buildings. Likewise I think it has been said with the BD before that a raft was constructed to firstly prevent digging all the way down to bedrock and secondly to keep the base at a relatively shallow depth underground because of the high water table. It seems that most any extremely high building is already using a raft foundation as that's the best for distributing the larger weights of buildings like that. I'm no expert when it comes to foundations but it all makes good sense.

The base raft just binds it all together so I think you're partially correct in "uneven" building loads. The piles are adjusted for length depending on where they are in the building's footprint and the loads they will carry so again, it seems like you're partly right. I think there were one or two piling diagrams of BD floating around through the masses of threads but I do recall seeing the ends showing very little depth (edges of podium for example), and the core piles going the deepest.

@picture from inside the tower on first page: Sweet picture! Where did you get that?

Can't wait till June, when cladding starts going up on the ENTIRE tower.
