MetalliTool, are you refering to the gray areas on the building in the diagram? I think that might be where the wings still have to be finished.

...Maybe?

this freaking tower is HUGE!!! might not appear so coz there is nothing much around it to compare to. Taipei 101 virtually dwarf everything around it...so did Petronas Twin towers.

I got 850m - here look at this...

452m / 403 pixels = 1.12meters per pixel

355 pixels to go x 1.12 = 398m

so 452m done plus 398m to go = 850m total

what could be wrong??

I wonder if the owner of Burj Dubai is aware of this thread? He might freak out that some of you guys might already figured it out what is the exact height of Burj Dubai.

Freak out - lol!
I'm sure he's laughing if he reads it.
Speculation, hype, excitement, promotion, he loves it.

I do too.

Just a point I would like to put out there referring to every render comparison-calculation-speculation I have seen. :P

I havent heard anyone comment about the perspective of the renders and how the top half of the tower is infact taller than the bottom half due to this. The top half needs to be stretched in order to give an accurate measurement which cannot be achieved if counting pixel by pixel.

I currently have a fever and cant think straight so I will try to explain a simpler way... A meter may be represented as a pixel at the bottom of the render but at the top a meter is in fact half a pixel.

This would make the render much closer to 900m or 916m....?

The most exciting time will be when the tower will be approaching the level at which we currently think the concrete structure will end. It'll be exciting to see if we were right about that. And if it does go beyond that point, every day will be a surprise to see how high it goes.

Welcome, Graham! Great first contribution! I love how well they line up. Makes the finished thing seem that much more real.

yup - good point.
The render has a camera perspective from about 400 meters above grade.
And the photo has a camera perspective from maybe around 75 meters above grade.

But the distance from camera to object is large so perspective effect is reduced a lot ( not too wide a lens I think ) - but yes, let's revise the new official, emmar final uncontested, internationally accepted and sanctioned height, notarized by an accountant near you height to 888m.

Great graham!

However I have to disagree with the perspective being at 400m, its closer to 200m. Look at the angle of the roof on the second setback on the left of the render. Its flush with our view, therefore making it the easiest place from which to calculate the perspective error. My rough estimate is its at approx 200m.

This would push the render to 900m+ in my opinion

What do you think? Can you recalculate the 'Official graham height'? :P

graham-
the top of tier 11 = 442m. or tier12= 507m. if you scale it that then its 808m.
where did u get 452m below tier11 roof? we are currently 460m or 4 floors above tier11.

At first I thought you were right but as I noticed when graham first posted his diagram, he is actually measuring the render in 3D!

The guide line is supposed to extend all the way through to the back of the tower in the render which after perspective is taken into consideration, is correct compared to the photo as this is the point he using as a guide, not the front of the render.
