Alright. This is extended from something I did on the "guess the height of the Burj Dubai" thread.

This is the shadow the Burj would cast at around 10 or so in the morning in my neighborhood.

Oh, this has the Burj scaled to 808m.

i guess the mighty BD can be seen all over Dubai now? people must be thinking, what the hell is that? little do they realise its gonna be another 300m+ added yet. btw, its 3km from coastline. looks closer due to height.
cheers fury

Dubai Re-ups Race for World's Tallest Building

For the inside scoop on five more of the most ambitious engineering projects on earth—from the earthquake-read Bay Bridge to the world's biggest science project—pick up the June issue of Popular Mechanics, on sale now!

Published in the June 2007 issue.

BURJ DUBAI
Location: Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Price Tag: Approximately $1 billion
Completion Date: 2007
Estimated Height: 2950 feet
Tallest building one-upmanship seems to erupt every 30 to 40 years. In 1930s New York the Chrysler Building battled with the Empire State Building for the world title. In the early ’70s, the World Trade Center and Sears Tower duked it out. Malaysia took the fight overseas in 1998, when its 1483-ft. Petronas Towers overtook the Sears Tower as the world’s tallest building (unless you count the Chicago building’s highest antenna — a point of contention in some circles), only to be bested six years later by Taiwan’s 1671-ft. Taipei 101. Now on deck: Dubai’s 2950-ft. Burj Dubai, slated for completion in 2009. Wary of competitors, its builders are keeping their exact plans a secret; the top of the tower will reportedly be a steel-frame structure that can be expanded upward to defeat any late-breaking challenges. The final height could be as much as 3084 ft., or more than half a mile.

Fury, why do you keep posting old pics? This thread is for following the construction progress. What do we need 2 month old pics for? It just creates confusion and takes up space.

So do most of the posts on this thread!

Weve had this discussion and he makes it clear that they are not resent pics by placing dates above them.

Fury, perhaps you could write DD-MMM-YYYY or MMM-DD-YYYY to make it more obvious?

If your window is situated properly, you could see THE WORLD!!!

I do not know if it is close enough to see Palm Jebel Ali or Palm Jumeirah, Arent they too far south

Well Palm Jumeirah is like 10 miles according to Google earth so YOU COULD SEE IT!!!!!

Palm Jebel Ali is 22 miles

Like I posted before, It seems that the rendering is missing alot of towers also.

But still, what's the point? We've all seen hundreds of BD pics, we know what it looks like, so unless it's an actual update or a really interesting pic, why post it?

According to the official site, you can see the spire from 60 miles away, so from the upper floors I'm sure you can see things that are 20 or so miles away fairly easily... on a clear day.

i live on floor 20, fairly cllose to the bd, and i can see jumeirah lake towers on a fairly dusty day, that has to be around 15km. so at level 150+ you could probs see like WOW... so far!!!( im not familiar with miles sorry)

It's kind of funny to think of not knowing miles. Kilometers make much more sense, though. Okay, 1 inch = 2.54 cm, so 1 mile = 1609 m.

Interesting that, from what I've seen, in HK and around Asia (ICC, SWFC, One Island East), the cladding is started once the core of a building is about 50% completed, but this doesn't seem to be the case with this building.
