Cismigiu hotel renovations to start after 3-year stand-by

Autor: Ziarul Financiar Data: 27-11-2007

Cismigiu hotel, located on the Regina Elisabeta Boulevard, which was acquired by real estate developer Hercesa in 2004, will become operational in 2010, following investments worth five million euros. "The works will start midway through next year, and the extended stay hotel will be completed within around two years. Works have not yet begun, as we have not yet decided on the technical solutions. What we will do is tear down the internal structure and keep the outside structure of the hotel," said Alejandro Solano, general manager of Hercesa Imobiliare. He specified he was expecting a 10% return on investment. The hotel will have a capacity of 76 rooms and a restaurant, and will potentially include City Grill among its brands, a chain controlled by businessman Dragos Petrescu. "We have held talks with City Grill representatives," said Solano. After being nationalised in the '50s and given back to the inheritors of the original owners half a century later, the building was acquired in 2004 by the Spain-based Hercesa, after being in a derelict state for many years. Hercesa representatives would not reveal the value of the transaction.

Finally...

Current look:

That's great news, Le Clerk! Finnaly we'll have something there, not just an almost dilapidated building.

I hope this street will start sooner rather than later to get a similar treatment like the 'old center'....there's another hotel vis-a-vis Academia Militara which is under renovation works, but I forgot its name....in a few years Bucharest will have a refreshened French aspect.

I just hope they will not fix the roof with some cheap metal like Universitatea.

The other hotel is Bulevard.

I agree with you. I think Elisabeta deserves much more. There are other historical buildings that need to be renovated, and I think all those cinemas where nobody goes should be transformed into theaters. The whole area could become Bucharest's theater district.

@ Corneliu... not only they should use the right materials for the roof, they should also rebuild it as it once was, with all the details:

Little Paris its fine with me ... besides it is (was rather) not just the look; but the cultural connections of those times ...

Over the last two centuries for the young Romanian intellectuals seeking a Western education, cultural accomplishment, or political asylum, France and its capital city became both Mecca and hospitable land. The Romanian fascination with Paris took many different forms. Under the circumstances the continuity between Bucharest, the Romanian Little Paris, and the French capital was almost seamless. The very first wave of exiles arrived in Paris in the aftermath of the 1848 revolutions. Between the two world wars the integration of displaced Romanians into the French cultural milieus - sometimes through mixed marriages - encouraged inter-artistic cross-fertilizations. The writers, painters, sculptors, frequently associated with the historical avant-garde, left for Paris to produce literature in an adopted language and scenery. A later group, the post-war asylum-seeking wave of Romanian intellectuals, formed an anticommunist Diaspora. They clustered around the Romanian department of "Radio Free Europe" and managed to radicalize and to coagulate the Romanian community. For them Paris represented a political and a cultural alternative to totalitarianism, an option for intellectual survival. Starting with the Paris of the 1848 generation - to a great extent a political and cultural fiction, dominated by the myth of the Great Revolution - for the successive waves of Romanian intellectual exiles the hospitable French land was only the starting point of a long process of imaginative construction, constantly built and re-built, in slightly different versions and turned into a topographical non-lieu.

Bucuresti was a very important cultural centre of the albanian renaissance in the time when Albania was in Ottoman Empire. So thank you to your beautiful city.

The Albanians are an ethnic minority in Romania, numbering around 477 members (as of 2002). As an officially-recognized ethnic minority, Albanians have one seat reserved in the Romanian Chamber of Deputies to the League of Albanians of Romania (Liga Albanezilor din România).
