The bad thing is we will lose our beloved Sirkeci and Haydarpaşa stations I hope they will build a new larger station that serves subway, suburban, regional and high-speed trains.

During the excavations, they have found remains of an 8500-years old village.

And the tram/light rail system is far too small for Istanbul. Still, projects like this and the others to extend the metro will greatly improve transport around this amazing city.

It will be sad to see the ferries loose passengers though, but as long as they still survive this will be a far better option for local transport.
Marmaray will be an awesome project! But I hope you will miss reaching Haydarpaşa by ferry.

I hope they will build "museum-stations" where those archeological remains will be displayed.

It has 3 lines. 2 of them for metro, and the other is for bullet train and suburban...

What is the schedule now? I lived in Istanbul 10 years ago, and it seems like not much has changed since then.

You're right.
This project is over 100 years old.

Fresh Shots:

This is a part of the tube whose concrete job is completed and temporary platforms are removed.

The temporary platform to be removed after final settlement of tube and concrete works.

Left side, Üsküdar way Tunnel - Right side, Yenikapı way Tunnel.

You can see the valve/gate to the other tube. It will be removed after the removal of this temporary passage.

Another temporary valve between tunnels.

I think this thread must be moved to "railways" section as it is a heavy rail project

This project really is amazing. I love Istanbul, and Turkey as a whole! I can't wait to go back and see this done. Hopefully the metro system will be greatly expanded too, a city of Istanbul's size and stature really needs something much more extensive. Show the EU what they're missing out on, lol.
