ISTANBUL | Third Bosphorus Underwater Tunnel | Metro + Highway | App

Quote:
The new tunnel will be located between the First Bosphorus Bridge and Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge - also known as the Second Bridge - Erdoğan said.

Istanbul's first sub-sea tunnel project, Marmaray, opened on October 29, 2013. The second, the Eurasia Tunnel ("Avrasya Tüp Tüneli" in Turkish) is on its way: the double-deck tunnel will cross the Bosphorous strait undersea, connecting Kazlıçeşme district on the European side of Istanbul with Göztepe district on the Asia side through a 14.6 km (9.1 miles) route. It is due to open in 2016.

Istanbul's third new underwater passageway project, whose name has not yet been announced, is also aimed to relieve the city's intense traffic

Shouldn't the Rail be on the bottom due to its heaviness?

Istanbul Marmaray link second phase to open in 2017
Friday, April 08, 2016

TURKISH State Railways (TCDD) confirmed to IRJ on April 6 that it is planning to start operations on the second phase of the Marmaray project in Istanbul in the first half of 2017

The 63km project extends the existing cross-Bosphorous rail link at both ends, from the line's current eastern terminus at Ayrilik Cesmesi via Pendik (the current limit of rail services from the east) to Gebze, and from the western terminus at Kazlicesme to Halkali. This will add 32 new stations to the five currently operational on the 13.6km central section, which opened in October 2013

From Railway Gazette

Marmaray upgrading works resume
01 Feb 2017

TURKEY: Surface works on the Asian and European sides of Istanbul’s Marmaray suburban corridor reportedly resumed at the end of January following an agreement between lead contractor OHL and the government.

The Marmaray immersed tube tunnel which links railways on either side of the Bosporus Strait opened on time in October 2013, but upgrading of approach routes to create a 77 km high-capacity corridor between Halkali on the European side and Gebze in Anatolia has been subject to considerable delay. OHL was appointed to lead the project under Contract CR3 worth €933m in October 2011, which includes station rebuilding work and triple-tracking on the Asian side to allow long-distance and high speed trains to serve Istanbul’s Haydarpașa terminus

Istanbul Marmaray project will be completed in 2018, says minister
August 11, 2017

TURKEY’s transport, maritime affairs and communications minister Mr Ahmet Arslan says that the long-delayed second phase of the Marmaray project in Istanbul will now be completed next year

The 63km project extends the existing 13.6km cross-Bosphorous rail link which opened in October 2013 on both the European and Asia sides. The work involves rebuilding the existing railway, which has been out of use for several years, from the Bosphorous link’s current eastern terminus at Ayrilik Cesmesi via Pendik (the current limit of rail services from the east) to Gebze, and from the western terminus at Kazlicesme to Halkali. This will add 32 new stations to the five currently operational on the central section
