this makes me wonder....most of the santa monica mountains cut through L.A...around how many square miles would that take out of L.A.'s total? this should be taken into account when figuring out L.A.'s density

im sure that could be figured out by calculating zoning square feets, but that would probably take forever given the size and numbers of independent cities

But are the moutains really included in the 469 miles that LA spans. Are they actually considered part of the City of Los Angeles? I always believed that they were calculated out of the land area, just like water is.

The census dept. counts all non-citizens, including illegal immigrants. That's one of the absurdities that one agency of the government knows they exist and where they live, but they don't report it to another agency to have them deported.
