Here's the projects they have worked on -
http://buildingdb.ctbuh.org/?do=comp...n%20&%20Toubro

Btw, Ctbuh has the tower's status as a proposal only.
L&T is one of the most experienced civil construction companies in India with a very diverse portfolio. They have built many other towers and are in the process of building Orchid Crown (3x75fl) in Prabhadevi, Mumbai. The NDA signed between L&T and the developer prohibits them to release any information to the public. That is why there is no information of the project on their website or on any of the other companies working on the tower (Eg. WSP Engineers, Foster & Partners).

The most L&T released was this back in 2009 informing their shareholders of recent deals - "Buildings and Factories Operating Co, part of L&T's construction division, has secured a Rs 621-crore contract from DB Hospitality Ltd for building a high-rise tower, India Tower, at Charni road, Mumbai." (Link to article)

I honestly couldn't care less what Ctbuh has listed on their website. They have very little (and that too archaic) knowledge about the towers being constructed in Mumbai. I've followed this project right from its inception and get periodic updates from my sources in the construction industry and media. Since you've contacted them, maybe you should tell them to change the status as well.

There's no point waiting for an official announcement from the developer at this stage since they have nothing to gain besides possibly getting their project tangled in legal court battles for "magically" getting approvals for its development and increase in permitted FSI.

Maybe once it has reached street level then we can expect some news. Let's go by pictures and press releases from the companies involved in building this beast and not by the developer.

Here's a recent press release from a fly ash manufacturer:

August 29 2010: L+T selects POZZOCRETE 63 for the construction of 'India Tower' Mumbai

Quote:
India Tower, a project of DB Reality, will reach a height of 720 meters and will become the tallest structure in India. To guarantee the safety of the concrete structure which is designed to contain processed Fly Ash to increase durability and strength of the concrete, Larsen + Toubro, entrusted with the construction, decided to use 19,000 ts of ISI marked POZZOCRETE 63 in this project. Supply to the project started in August 2010.

Dirk India gained the reputation to supply its POZZOCRETE to a number of outstanding structures like Burj Khalifa, Dubai, (the currently tallest building of the world) , Al Hamra Tower, Kuwait, The Pearl , Qatar, Financial Harbour, Bahrain, only to mention a few.

To enhance High Performance Concrete DIRK India recently developed POZZOCRETE 100 which is designed to replace silica fumes (microsilica) especially to cater for these type of structures.

Congratulations, Mumbai!

As the de facto capital of an emerging superpower, this landmark tower is well-deserved!

The hole for the foundation (at least what is visible in the pictures) is not shaped anything like the base in the renders. Shouldn't we see a triangle?

Amazing how this project has avoided so much attention. It's even more fascinating that a project like this needs to avoid making attention in India.

Thanks for the insights from the Indian forumers into the intricacies of building such a project in your country. Reminds me of early skyscraper history when many cities, even NY, had ~200 feet height limits on buildings. Hopefully this project will get people over their fears and misconceptions about tall buildings.
