The author probably meant to say "skyscrapers", not "supertalls".

(Or doesn't know the definition of a supertall.)

2) The newspaper obviously subscribes to a different definition of supertall than we do--probably using it as a general term instead of the more technical meaning.

dude IU's vid was in Jan 2010.

they have really tightened up things a lot since then. Its like they got wind of SSC and then decided to cover up.

Plus i believe IU had legitimate entry to the buildings nearby. One side is railway tracks, one side is greenery

In any case they are still digging a hole in the ground. So any pictures taken even recently will still be that. I am guessing it will be the same in December when you come to visit Mer101.

Having said that the extra tight security everywhere could be to do with the fact that Obama is in town +diwali....

if there is a construction going on in this site, would there not be building workers and their families around the site? They cannot be locked inside the barriers!!

Hi Get.
I think you mean temporary housing for the workers ?
Unless this project was in the middle of nowhere wouldn't the workers just go home to their families ?

They can commute to the site. Its near a prominent railway station. I saw no site were the workers were housed nearby

Plus they are at the digging stage and using bull dozers and sort as off now.

the construction stage may involve a lot of workers. Not the digging the hole in the ground stage.

Maybe somebody in the construction industry can throw some light on it.

Are you trying to tell us that since January, the security in those buildings surrounding the construction site is so high, that no one can walk into any one of those buildings, climb a few flights of stairs, look out a window and take a picture?

Also, you are saying that the paper can report 85 SUPERTALLS under construction, but this one is to be kept secret because of the discussions in this forum?

hmm those buildings have watchmen I think. Its not easy as simply walk up and take a pic. Plus i think they are residential buildings. The watchman will not let you though.

Need to ask IU (the mod who took the original video) what exactly he did cause the video looks as if he has taken it from inside an apartment. From the looks of the buildings in the pic they dont have a common area with a view outside like stairs. The apartments will have the view.

Secondly, the paper which reported the 85 supertalls I believe is a Malaysian paper (The Daily Star). So i dont think we should pay any attention to that for Mumbai specific projects. Unless they have just copied the article from another Indian newspaper.

Thirdly, the paper is clearly wrong. There are not 85 super talls under construction in Mumbai. There are probably 4-5 at various stages of development from being built (Palais Roayle) to site prep(this one and the Orchid projects).

Fourthly, IMO yes. I do believe they are reading whats written about the project in the thread in the Indian section atleast(or the Mumbai section).
Its a known fact that the Indian media regularly lifts a lot of images etc from the pic taken from SSC India without proper credit. Its my hunch that the builders are keeping tab somewhat on this thread. (or the thread in the indian section)

You don't realize how hard it is to get into an upper-class residential apartment building in India. All of them have paid watchmen; and there is almost not a chance that they would let you go inside to take pictures for an online messageboard. Once I was just taking a picture of building in the area when one of them started to give me a dirty look.

And this is not the first time that a tall building project has been shrouded in secrecy in India. You see, the law is never on the skyscraper's side; the laws and regulations governing these are very outdated.

And finally, someone is going to try to get photos from a nearby building either this month or next. Our Bombay forumers (with the exception of two) are a bit lazy with pictures.

More evidences:

POZZOCRETE 63 for the construction of 'India Tower' and Lodha's World One Tower, Mumbai

India Tower, a project of DB Reality will become the tallest structure in India. To guarantee the safety of the concrete structure which is designed to contain processed Fly Ash to increase durability and strength of the concrete, Larsen + Toubro, entrusted with the construction, decided to use 19,000 ts of ISI marked POZZOCRETE 63 in this project. Supply to the project started in August 2010.

At the same time DIRK was awarded supply to Lodha's World One Tower with a height of 1440 feet.

Dirk India gained the reputation to supply its POZZOCRETE to a number of outstanding structures like Burj Khalifa, Dubai, (the currently tallest building of the world) , Al Hamra Tower, Kuwait, The Pearl , Qatar, Financial Harbour, Bahrain, only to mention a few.

To enhance High Performance Concrete DIRK India recently developed POZZOCRETE 100 which is designed to replace silica fumes (microsilica) especially to cater for these type of structures.

I think there is also another reason they are hush hush on it.

The company DB reality recently had a poor on the BSE. But raised enough money to finish this project with ease.

A lot of big players pumped in money into this stock despite the shady accounts and lack of big project completion.

What will happen is that when this tower rises people will naturally ask wtf is that. I am talking about the reaction of the people on the ground who are not into skyscrapers.

Then it comes to light for the small investor that the company building this is infact DB reality. So the stock value jumps up simply based on the sentiment of completing such a project in India...

There might be a good chance that they will build a 500plus tower and axe the spike at the top. As it would have done the job of increasing the stock value by then.

Can somebody in Mumbai provide MOD with the accurate directions to reach this site. MOD in the past has been able to get pics of CWG stadiums while they were still in construction phase and entry was restricted. When are you going to be in Mumbai MOD?

To all the other people commenting on this thread, remember that this building is being constructed in Mumbai, India and not another city or country. There are a lot of factors why the builders would like to keep it hush-hush. Several demographics are involved here in Mumbai. A lot of questions have been asked about why this project does not have a website, if the developer wants to keep it hush-hush why would they have a website. I have known of projects (though smaller ones) in New Mumbai where the builder would not even put up any contact details on the signboard for fear of being contacted by people on the wrong side of the law.

The moderators though should agree to move this project back to U/C once anybody is able to get any prooof of construction activity.

get down at Charni road railway station which is a stop on the western railways.

walk along Maharishi Karve Road(MK road) (along the railway tracks) towards Marine Lines railway station and turn right at Bahdod Road where the site it at. Basically get down at Charni road and start walking towards Marine lines station. Its about 5-6 min walk and you should come across the boardings as you walk around there. Thats the route i took.

On the other side of the railtracks tracks you should see Catholic Gymkhana.

the address is

Thakurdwar (name of the chawl nearby ), Kalbadevi, Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

Google maps i do believe have Indian tower marked down(you can see a triangular shape)

By car just take MK road and follow the boardings to directly opposite the catholic gymkhana. Or just ask your driver or person to take you to charni road railway station and drive along MK road towards Marine lines.
