I don't understand the need to argue about it ... all suggestions and evidences point out to a supertall construction going on. The work is going on and we would see the results soon.

Now about India's ability , I think its a function of growth and money .. it will keep on increasing .. this is just the first step !! What ability di Dubai have 10 year ago .. they had money and growth and everything came in .. means its globalization .. If DB wil have money it will come up as they want it !!!

once construction starts for a particular design i dont see it being 'cut down' unless the company has a massive financial disaster. nothing so far points to this being anything but a huge supertall

and they are ridiculously hush-hush about it. a friend of mine who is partnering with DB in one of their other projects refuses to talk too much about it

I think this tower would be one of the best looking supertalls if only the spire were a little bit shorter....

One of the reasons I sight is that they want to start the construction and once it begins, they will let everyone know about it. But if they have been bragging about it and nothing happens, then they will be ashamed of it.

The very first render in the first page is the final design.
I think you are asking this by seeing the L shaped foundation ( or may be not ). You can clearly see in the render that the actual structure starts about 10 meters from the ground. Only the 3 columns which ends up as a spire are in touch with ground only these columns will carry load to the ground. So it is sufficient to dig for foundation for these 3 columns only but to give a underground parking they have dig the earth in b/w 3 columns because of this the foundation looks like a kidney shape or L shape.

On the contrary, I thought the long spire gels well with the slender look of the tower. Unlike the one I saw on the Imperial, which I find too short and abrupt.
To each, his own!

Notice how there is no other major development surrounding this Tower? It's like they chose some shanty town and started digging a foundation with the hopes of attracting other nearby buildings in the future.

It'll take a decade, but should be interesting to see this monstrosity finally get built.

While it does look like a decrepit area, this is one of the most expensive pieces of real estate in India. The buildings you see here are all almost a century old- save for some new ones that came up in the late 60's and 70's.

Those surrounding buildings aren't slums - they aren't maintained at all because the rents have been frozen by law for many decades.

Those shanty towns as you call them, are actually I believe housing off the mill workers of the textile mills which moved inland in the 70s-80s.

That's what I call, "outside the box" design.

Hyatt have already said that the hotel will be part of the iconic 125-story India Tower. Read this press release if you don't believe me.

I'm not sure what is so difficult to believe about that?

Foster and Partners have undertaken a complete and comprehensive redesign of this project. Not only that but several options have been designed by Fosters from an intial tower of 412m to the one you see now. Fosters are not lending their name to this, they are designing it from top to bottom. Your comment that an intern or new employee is working on it is laughable.
