I'm of the opinion, that an additional 20 floors, added to tower 2, making it the tallest physical building in the composition, (at about 1'500 feet) would be a great alternative.
You can't just add up height to tower 2. Freedom Tower will look smaller. Both towers 1 and 2 should be raised a bit to make sure number 3 is less and the whole composition of the design is saved as planned.

Merrill has backed out of talks for Tower 3. Back to the drawing board.
Silverstein must have known a while ago as they had already resumed foundation construction. I guess they proceeded with the original plans instead of the increasing size for Merrill. So much for possible height/size increases.

Who knows what will happen now. I hope we get back the FIRST 175 Greenwich.
This could mean part of the "delay" could go away. They might decide to go through with a bigger T3 just for the sake of having more space. It was something, of course, Larry wanted to begin with.

(Also keep in mind that ML has "backed out" of WTC talks before.) No matter how you look at it, it's not bad at all because it could mean seeing them build a massive skyscraper of their own elsewhere in the city or backing another skyscraper superproject.

It feels like this project is on a razor edge right now. I think they could decide to forget public opinion and scale it way down...if this happens it would be in the next month or two so this time is key. Hopefully the economy doesn't tank too much more.

I don't understand why they would do so, but now, there is no more reason to increase the theight of tower 3.

@Ebola,
I wouldn't be surprised if the credit crisis forces them to stay in their current office tower for a while.
I thought they were pretty hard hit by it.

If I remember the lobby plans correctly it didn't look like it. Where they posted on here? Does anyone know where they are because I can't remember where I saw them?

Great designs with amazing heights. Wonderful for NYC. WTC 2 looks outstanding but I also like the FT.

There is a smaller copy of WTC 2 going to be built in Kiev or Minsk....
These towers are awesome and really pretty. They are worthy successors for the old WTC...

What are they doing with all the dirt they've excavated from the east bathtub? I mean, the old ones not that much bigger and they expanded the island so much from that.

I'm not sure, but they might be using it to fill in other parts of the WTC.

I thought Tower 2 Site was scheduled to be excavated by 30 June. So are they paying $300,000 a day to Larry? Im getting sick and tired and bored of everything of the WTC being behind schedule. 99 Church Street was due to start construction in June, nothing happened there either. Sorry guys but its getting boring now.

99 Church Street is not part of the WTC complex.

Last i checked though the building had been demolished.
