Nice pictures and a good overview. That is a lot of digging going on there.

bit offtopic, but I'm wondering for a while, what is the black covered robust builing on top in the middle on the last pic?

The black covered building is the Deutsche Bank Building. It is being demolished.

Correct me if it is not that building you were talking about.

Correct me if I'm wrong but what they are doing now at this part of the WTC site is:
- Demolish the temporary path entrance
- Excavating at Tower 2 and 3
- Creating the foundations at Tower 4

They're done with most of the temporary PATH entrance, I think. What they're chipping away at now is some of the left overs of the original WTC mall.

Excavation for Towers 2 and 3 is complete and I think they're doing rock blasting at Tower 3.

WTC Tower 2 Curtain Wall Mock Up

Can't really judge it from that, but it seems mind-blowing. Foster.

Look good IMO.

From the same site, but less good news for the WTC:

Quote:
After a wearying five-year search in which the Signature Theater Company was promised a new home at the former World Trade Center site and later in a community college auditorium on West Broadway, the organization now plans to move to a tower under construction on West 42nd Street, a few doors down from its current home.

The Signature space, to be designed by Frank Gehry, would be at the base of a 58-story, 1.2-million-square-foot hotel and residential building being developed by Related Companies at 10th Avenue, near the strip of theaters known as Theater Row. The building was designed by Arquitectonica.

In 70,000 square feet of contiguous space to be known as the Signature Center, the Off Broadway company would operate one theater with 299 seats and two with 199, one of which would be flexible. The theater now has just one 160-seat auditorium, at 555 West 42nd Street in Clinton.
I wonder which tower that would be.

I don't even know what they are talking about so it can't be that big of a loss.

The WTC PAC was never palnned out so I think they planned a PAC in the base of a planned tower nearby the WTC.

I'm hoping the Performing Arts Center by the Freedom Tower never sees the light of day. (It just seems terribly out of place, at least the way I'm imagining it.) If they could pull it off somehow, it could be interesting.

I did like how, at the old WTC, they did live events in the plaza. Maybe they were just thinking of doing that on a bigger scale?

Tommaso Fantoni calls him Larry instead of Mr. Silverstein.

For those who haven't seen the new pics on wtc.com:

Foundations for the core and the perimeter columns (October 1th)

Hi res version, 3MB but worth downloading

T3 & T4 sites (October 1th):

Fully excavated T2 site (October 7th):

The sites for T2 and T3 haven't changed much since the beginning of the month. However, the foundations for T4 are progressing very well and will be finished within a couple of months

You're right; I guess it won't be long before they erect that new crane. The entire section has been put together, but it's still on the ground. I recall reading in a news article that building the memorial would require one tower crane so keep your eyes open. It may not be that long before we see a lot more activity on the T4 site too.

Edit: the new crane was erected at about 7:15 PM.
