I've never seen any plans for a San Gabriel extension, which seems ridiculous since there is the old heavy rail alignment to Murcia station just sitting there waiting to be used - plus it'd be huge boost to regenerating the southern port area.

I can see the sense in the current policy of just getting the double tracking sorted though. I can't think of any time when frequency hasn't been a weak point with the system.

That said, I can't wait to try out L2 next time I'm in the city. It's a credit to FGV that they managed to get it finished in the current climate.

I don't think a tramway could work in Benalúa Station (Murcia station). They wer used for heavy trains, basically.
Anyway, these rails are supposed to disappear sooner or later, when rebuilding Alicante's south entry. I don't know when that will happen, tho.

Alicante's TRAM network will stay as it is for a really long time.
Before that, L1 should arrive until Altea and Serra Grossa's tunnel should be oppened (which is finished already, but they still need to put the rails and the overhead power cable and they said It won't be working before 2017 ).

"A really long time" is not the same as "never see that happen".

The Serra Grossa tunnel is the top priority now, much more than electrification to Altea.

Once the Serra Grossa tunnel opens and L1 is extended to Altea, the next step will be to extend the underground section to the railway station. The tunnel between Luceros and the square in front of the station has already been dug and tracks have been installed (is used to store trams and to reverse, I think). Therefore, only the underground tram station needs to be built.

However, the project was paralyzed because that tram station was to be built together with the new underground railway station. As it would be very costly, the project was postponed. I hope sooner or later a new project is made and the works can start before 2020. The original project also included two more underground stations (Gran Via and Av. Orihuela) before reaching Babel neighborhood, where the line would emerge to the surface. From there it would continue to the Airport and Elche, but I don't think that would ever be done, it's better to improve (electrification, double-track and a new layout to serve the Airport) the existing railway connection between Alicante and Elche than building a new line from scratch.

It will be a great success If the line to Babel gets built before 2030, L2 is extended to the north of Sant Vicent and a new line to Sant Joan and a Muchamiel is projected. In my opinion these should be the priorities for the next decades, once the sections currently under construction are finished and the economic situation of the Valencian government improve.

Why and for how long has the Benalua station been disused?

That´s off-topic here (nothing to do with the Alicante tram).
I´m answering you here.

I agree that a tram extension to Elche isn't the best way forward. The arrival of the AVE (and the co-operation of RENFE and FGV over ticketing for onward travel) makes a proper tram link to the station increasingly important, and the work already done should be finished off to make a modest underground tram terminus at RENFE, but tunneling onward and more underground stations is hard to justify in the foreseeable future. Beyond that, improving Cercanias service is going to give the biggest improvements for the smallest outlay.

Is it correct that the service frequency on L4 is only once per hour?

You have a L4 tram every 30 minutes, also in sundays and bank holidays.

Today I´m introducing the Alicante night tram services.
They´re called TRAMnochador, a Spanish word play, it translates badly to English, literally it would be "TRAMstays-up-late", but I guess one could translate it as "TRAMSleepless", too.

They´re not new at all, before the line to Benidorm was transformed into a tram, it was a full railway night service known as "Trensnochador".

The problem is that sometimes these services get really overcrowded, as the frequency of night services is not high at all, like this night tram Luceros-Benidorm.

The tram in the next video was so overcrowded that people couldn´t board in many stops.

It´s been filmed at El Campello at 00:27, not even halfway from Alicante to Benidorm, still 50 more minutes before the end of the line:

Closed L9 since yesterday between Calpe and Dénia: Too poor security conditions.

Temporarily suspended rail service between Calp - Dénia.

Between Benidorm and Altea was upgraded (platforms and tracks) in 2008
Between October 2015 and May the section Altea - Calpe was upgraded too.
In October begins the upgrade works in the closed section.

Have the upgrades commenced? When is the closed stretch between Calpe and Denia expected to reopen?
