This is not Struma... And as you see there are no crash barriers on the extremes.

I'm not a fan of crashbarriers immediatly next to the shoulder. If you get a breakdown, it's important to stop your vehicle some distance away from the driving lanes. Most emergency lanes don't support that width.

Yep, I don't like them neither. They are only necessary on bridges or any places where you can fall of the road.

Because this is a new section. Only 3-4 years old.

Here are some photos from the section next to Sofia, which was built between 1984 (when the construction of the motorway started) and 1999 (when they opened the Praveški Hanove tunnel):
A few kilometres before the beginning of the motorway (rusty and grassy crash barriers):

Wide tunnels. And typical Bulgarian stony pavement.

You know this type of pavement is for purpose - to increase fraction on places that usually freeze in winter.

I ve been on that road, its a very good road generally and the tunnels are great and bridge offering nice view, though the pavement could use some maintenance on some parts, but still its good

Yep, there is even one part near Devnja where the pavement is awful, but in general it's good. As much as I know the motorway will be given on concession in 2009-2010 with the obligation of the concessioner to finish it and repair the pavement wherever it's needed. Meanwhile I haven't heard yet of taking the necessary steps to do this...

This is the right bridge of Vitinia viaduct, part of Hemus Motorway [A2]. Nowadays there is one more bridge like this next to it.

Those crash barriers seem to be A-profile

The second one is really the Sv. sv. Konstantin i Elena interchange, but the 1st one is the interchange between Knjaz Boris I blvd. and Vasil Levski blvd. at Počivka.
Now those trees from the picture are much bigger and so are the bushes. There are also barriers in the middle to prevent grannies from crossing.
Also, on the first picture there are no wires for the trolleybuses yet.

I used to live 200 metres away from there since I was born until the age of 15. We still have the apartment in Čajka.
Btw, those blocks have 1 normal elevator and a cargo one.

Here's how this interchange looks now:

Actually each summer they use it for a race which takes place at Vasil Levski blvd. and it's closed for a whole day.
