You can see that in Google Earth.

While Sofia is indeed at 550 meters, the interchange between the Lyulin and the Sofia Ring road is already at 630 meters. Pernik is at 720 meters.

Did you check the Vitinya tunnels and the altitude of Hemus there as well ? It seems to me that it must be even higher then the highest point of Lyulin...

Hemus seems to reach 930m and Lyulin somewhere between 910 and 920m. Both motorway are indeed quite high to european standards.

the Struma motorway reaches more then 900 meters aswell !!!!!

The Project for the Northern speed tangent(kinda of a ring road for now, later with the extension fo the city northwards to become a city speedway) of Sofia is finished. The government intended to include it in the 2007-2013 period of OP Transport and to secure money from the Euro funds ... let's see what will happen.

Most probably AKTOR will start building the Lot 3 of Trakia Motorway; Nova Zagora - Yambol (36 km.) on 2nd August this year. The price is record low ... below 2 mil. EUR per km.

Construction works are scheduled to be completed in 25 months. The price of the construction is estimated at about BGN 138 M, 30-35 % of the funds will be made available by the end of the year.

The project will be funded entirely by the state budget until Brussels approves funding under the Operational ‘Transport’ Program.

€ 1.6 million per km to be exact. That's indeed extremely low. But the terrain is easy, almost no settlements, intersecting roads or rivers. This reduces the cost of "art object" (bridges, tunnels, overpasses etc.) significantly.

As prices per km for LOT 2&3 of Trakia motorway are significantly lower than expected, I realy hope that the government will have some adittional ressources to start another motorway projects such as, Sofia-serbian border or some section of Struma or Hemus motorways.

Rabish, give us a link to it and I'll believe you. Also armco crashbarriers are not good going forward, the concrete barrier is safer and easier to maintain.

For a second I thought Turnovec has copied pictures from some other country's discussion page. Seeing sod in Bulgaria is something I didn't think will happen in my lifetime . Why nobody has ever thought about making a multi-million dollar real estate development or a highway and get a $200 lawn mower to maintain the grass is beyond me.

Radi is right in this problem. From an inspection in GE, I got 922m the highest point of Struma. I think we should criticize ideas, not people.

But what is Strumatic, we have to define what Strumatic is, a word that refers to the experience of driving/travelling on a superior motorway called Struma motorway or to the ultimative psychedelic road experience only possible on brand new roads and most effective when there´s snow outside so that the shiny crashbarriers shine even more and reflect the snow and the asphalt looks even better.
