Yes, Marica is a river, Struma is also a river which flows from Sofia to greece, i think the motorways don´t have numbers, i don´t know of a number for the Struma motorway for example. For example the Cherno more motorway says that it is on the blacksea, the Trakya motorway says that it goes through thrace part of Bulgaria and so on, i know from Germany and especially from Austria that they use names, A10 Tauernautobahn, however in Germany i think not all have names.

Yeah, but in Bulgaria, Struma (Автомагистрала „Струма“) doesn't seem to have an A-number, while to other Avtomagistrala's in Bulgaria have one.

Well,in fact,we have one too,but its rarely referd to by its name...its the M7 "balatoni sztráda",meaning highway leading to Balaton.
But you are still unique from the most pf Europe...in the forum, most common refers are the numbers, but you use their names!

Yeah i seldom see anyone referring to motorway names except for Bulgaria. Even in France, where almost every Autoroute has a name, nobody uses it when to mention a motorway. (however some names are beautiful).

A road number doesn't necessarily represent a rank.

A lot of countries have low numbers for short unimportant motorways, or higher numbers could be an important motorway. Like the French A3, very short, but the A20 is much more important. or the Dutch A8, only 10km, but the A28 or A73 is much more important.

I hope the Bulgarians make some system in road numbering; radial from Sofija, or systematic zones, like in France and Germany.

I forgot to mention the USA, the most extreme example where numbers don't represent any rank, there are only 3 1 digit numbers (I-4, I-5, I-8)

I dont think A* means a rank in a list...Its rather just an identification. Our system are counted this way:beginning from the north, then clockwise, then the distance from the capital, last if it is a branch of some more important.
Let me tell an exapmle: here, M1 through M10 all (will)begin in Budapest, M8 and M9 vill be horizontal, avoiding BP,and M15 is a branch of M1, M30 and M35 are branches of M3.

Dont worry! National importanice is first, not some silly numbers.

The landscape looks nicer as i thought, it is worth a travel on the motorway, but it looks very old, goo d that they rehabilitated the whole motorway.

well it doesn't look bad at all. only bad things are:
-uncut grass
-missing night signalization (those sticks beside the road, you know what i mean)
-some exits are unlit
-kinda old-fashioned direction tables (reminds me to yugoslavian from 80es)

tarmac is at some places weird, but it is plain and that's the good thing. it's much more important that tarmac is plain than how it looks like.

and i'm still dying to see tunnels from closer perspective!!

That pavement near that large bridge is very bad... Hope they rehabilitate that soon. It now looks like the top layer has completely disappeared.

Please don't post such large pics, resize 'em first. Not everyone has 40 inch monitors.
