Do you have numbers?
I think that both BG and RO have more urgent priorities.

An expressway between Paraćin and Zaječar was mentioned by politicians as one project that will be built when Telekom Srbije is privatized. Now the government is in negotiations with Telekom Austria, the only bidder. They offered less than serbian side expected. Thus the project is very questionable.

But I think that the Vidin-Calafat bridge will be the best connection between a very big part of Serbia and Bucharest and southern Romania, even with the existing road between Paraćin and Zaječar.

The priorities in Serbia are Corridor 10, Corridor 11 (Temisvar-Vrsac-Belgrade-Montenegro), than motorway Novi Sad-Ruma-Sabac-Loznica, motorway Kragujevac-Kraljevo-Uzice-BiH.

Vidin-Botevgrad is planned as an expressway (Botevgrad-Sofia is the part of Hemus motorway which crosses the Balkan mountains in the area and it is already been built). So, there will be a fast connection between Sofia and Vidin-Calafat bridge.

No. It is an old sign. Until some years ago, there were no official transliteration rules and everyone was writing names with Latin letters as he sees it best.

In 2009, the parliament approved officially the Transliteration law which specified the exact rules for writing Bulgarian names with Latin symbols. So if you see anything different from this, it is either an old sign, or "illegal".

The project is in designing and engineering stage. It is planned to be build in this budgetary cycle of the EU(until 2014).
My impression is that it is not a high priority.

The route Vidin-Sofia or CIV is planned as expressway between Vidin and Botevgrad and as part of motorway [A2] Hemus between Botevgrad and Sofia. Some small parts of it have already been built.

1)Скоростни пътища.
2)No information so far.
3)Read this post
4)Yes it was, now it would be an expressway.

Bad_Hafen, which are the more urgent priorities of BG and RO in your opinion?

For BG it is for sure A1, A2, A3, A4, A5 and A6.
RO is so really big country with so little motorways so priorities for this country is to connect cities within the country.

So A1 is not priority in Bulgaria, but the motorway to Vidin is?
Where is the traffic denser?

If I were to guess, I would say that the route between Botevgrad and Vidin is more congested than Sofia - Kalotina, especially the part between Botevgrad and Vratsa.

From Sofia to Slivnitsa is already 2X2 (not in highway format though), so I believe jams are very rare in that direction. A highway is welcomed, of course, but in my opinion, it should not be the government's top priority. Unless there's some mad race with Serbia who's gonna complete their part first.

Well, A2 and A4 are planned for next budgetary period 2014-2020 of the EU and this part of A1 barely covers motorway traffic requirements except in summer months.

I would personally prioritize Sofia-Vidin as it would reach very fast high AADT as an alternative route from BG, GR and Asia towards Europe. Of course, I reckon that Sofia-Vidin should not be an expressway, but a motorway passing through Petrohan passage(Sofia-Montana)as some plans suggested in the pass.

I see. Thanks. I was though hoping for a motorway on the whole C IV south section.

I agree. But the south CIV section we are talking about will be basically a link between Timisoara and Craiova, which are major cities in Romania. It will also be a link in between very strong automotive production regions in Romania which already experience a lot of traffic as a result of that. The south section of C IV is indeed a connection for the bridge but for Romania is also a connection between the 2 mentioned cities and between 2 developed Romanian regions (relative to the rest of Romania).

so priority is link between Timisoara and Craiova and not between bridge and Craiova, if you ask me.

Alternative to what?
Do you know how many years is needed to finish that alternative?
It is just short-sighted and unneeded.

Well, both. There's no point in breaking the link in Craiova, which is only about 70 km away from the bridge. In fact, AFAIK, Romania lobbied and obtained from the Commission an extension of south C IV of at least 100 km in order to place Craiova on it, otherwise, the connection with the bridge would've been much shorter through Romania.

PS:Let's dicsuss this o the Romanian motorways thread.

alternative is not what can be called priority, first the routes have to be established and than alternatives. It is stupid to build two roads in one direction when you have zero in other directions.

Stopover Bulgaria, Zlatna Panega before entering the Hemus motorway A2, arriving in Sofia!
Picture taken by me last summer, the date is inscribed on the picture.
