But it is top quality and probably as good as a croatian or Slovenian motorway, if not better.
Aha, it's a piece of cake for Trakya to cross Ihtimanska Sredna gora mountain and Hemus to cross The Balkan mountains

One week before opening, Floating Shift decided to show us the final touches on Lyulin motorway being done:

markings put on the viaduct above Daskalovo junction. This is the end of Lyulin motorway and the beginning of Struma motorwayThe view is direction Sofia. Hopefully, they might redo the markings on the roundabout.

entrane from the roundabout towards Greece

again the viaduct over the rounabout, direction towards Sofia

More pictures of Daskalovo juncton:

В кръговото все още няма маркировка, но както казах, не се съмнявам, че скоро дейността от по-следващата снимка ще се пренесе и там.

A distant picture of a massive landslide that was brought under control More pictures of it coming.

The motorway is being cleaned for the new markings. I must say that there's a lot of dirt and earth on it.

The viaduct again. As you can see the railway Sofia-MK(future)/GR passes under it.

note the short sound barriers

quite a few trees here

The space between the two carriages of the viaduct is filled with sand and bitum is poured ontop:

The last two photos are from an overpass in the end of the landslide. In the distance you can see the village of Golemo Buchino. The people from this village and a few others from the next 3-4 villages to the west are seriously protesting and threatening to close the motorway unless a junction for them is built in this place. Their explanation-without the junction their village would die out Fortunately, authorities have promised them to design a junction, but construction is left for the future.

The landslide. Direction Sofia. A few months ago the two carriages were filled up with earth, mainly the right one on the picture. As you can see here and would see from the following picture earth was taken and drainage was installed in order to deal with it.

The northwestern Balkans are celebrating. Have no doubt which would be the favorite motorway in Bulgaria of a slovenian. "You shall know them by their plugs!"

our walls have different texture

direction Pernik/Struma

3 direction Pernik/Struma/GR

after the intersection(Daskalovo junction) you would be able to continue on Struma Motorway[A6]

If I'm not mistaken this is Lyulin mountain so direction Sofia. Oh, there would be climbing lanes for trucks. That was the least they could do since current AADT Pernik-Sofia is 35 000 and a 2x3 motorway could have been built.

In the distance tunnel number 3 out of 3 as we call it-tunnel number one is the closest one near Sofia. In the next two pictures is the same tunnel

It looks very good indeet, the crashbarriers are very very shiny. Taht is awesome. I am just wondering how the asphalt is. Can anyone tell me if the asphalt is as good as the Struma motorway asphalt or is it worse or better? The asphalt of the Struma motorway is very special, even from the pic it can be seen that the asphalt has a unique color and texture as if it is very special. I am wondering if this asphalt feels the same or not, chillo, please report. The Struma motorway asphalt is very even and has a texture on it, so that the grip of the tires is just amazing, how is the new asphalt?

note that not all light are lit in tunnel number 3. This looks as if these would be the best lit tunnels in Bulgaria.

direction Sofia

I think this is tunnel number 2.

Direction Sofia. Some works on concreting the rocky cliff on the left would be being carried out probably until the opening of the motorway.

now i have realized that you use the same font of numbers at speed limit signs as HR (and rest of ex-YU countries). i never thought that some other country uses it.

Lyulin Motorway[A5] is 18km long. It connects Sofia with Pernik.

the wetern most green road.

And no, people from Malo Buchino don't protest because they already have a connection to the motorway. I suppose this is the reason-a stupid rivalry between the two Buchinos separated by the Lyulin mountain

I think that we have to be sure. The work is almost done, they will clean up the construction site these days. I hope that the motorway is already safe. I don't expect any problems until the end of the summer, but it will be interesting to see what's going to happen with the slide when the snow will start to melt.

100%. It's the expirity date of the financial memorandum for the motorway with the EU. If we don't open it on 15.05.2011, the EU will take back its funds.
