Damn it, I thought I was clear...

AGAIN: my point is that Corridor IV gets "political" south of Lugoj(RO), because it is simply an alternative to Corridor X, but not a very good one.

To be honest,my post was meant to be "off-topic" just emphasizing that we have to build almost all,but you can choose

Yes, I agree. Before Romania joined the EU, we would have had to stay 2-3 hours at stupid border crossings, and now we stay 5-10 min max. For me it's best to avoid non-EU countries when I can, I'm a very impatient person. Of course, that doesn't mean I won't go to the Adriatic Sea in Montenegro and Croatia next time I have the chance!

khm, are you sure this is because of EU? when country is not in Schengen zone, border procedures are the same as earlier. i think that earlier you had too harsh controls at borders, and now they are normal.

The outter borders of the EU are usually much better checked than inside EU borders, even if they aren't in Schengen. I remember going to Poland before it joined EU, and they checked the whole car. A few years later when it was in the EU, they are only checking passports, and the waiting time was like 15 minutes or so.

But i can't wait until the new EU countries join schengen. Are RO and BG joining schengen too in december?

I'm 95% sure they aren't, because they joined EU this year.

We joined on 1 January 2007. As I said, before they would check us more thoroughly and I hate that, but this summer we spent the most amount of time when crossing from Switzerland into Italy.
Now the Hungarian & Austrian border police usually just waves us by, but they were more thorough before we joined the EU.

They will have to wait 2-4 years to be in Schengen.

Now out-of-Schengen countries will have to be careful, because they can be inspected even 30km inside Hungary, not just at the border.

Well, freeways are not only for traveling to neighboring countries. They have a much more important role as parts of integrated international corridors.

But anyway, don't forget the fact that EU is not finished enlarging yet. I don't know when Serbia is going to enter, but I'm positive it will be long before the Lugoj-Sofia section has any prospect of becoming a full freeway.

What is the REAL thing in Sofia that you want to see so badly? New bridge?

I don't know how new these pictures of Toronto's roads are, and I did not take any of them myself:

The longest street in Toronto.. "Yonge Street" taken from a northern suburb looking downward to downtown (this one photo taken by fdl1313):

Freeways (unknown photographers):
