The government allocated some 43 mln leva (some 22 mln euro) for emergency repairs of three major viaducts on A1 Trakiya an A2 Hemus. On Trakiya motorway they will start repairs of viaducts at km 61 (near Tserovo junction) and km 67, and on Hemus motorway at km 30.

€ 22 million, I suppose that's more than just some pavement patchwork.

Actually it will be structural repairs of the columns of the viaducts... And km 30 of A2 is Bebresh viaduct.

P.S. Here are some screenshots from the worst one on A1:

Yes, of course. Even in such condition they are supposed to survive much stronger quakes. And as we spoke before about Bebresh viaduct, the main problem is the outside protective layer of cement stucco and the armature holding it. The main inner part of the columns that holds the weight of the viaduct is not damaged.

According to experts the exposed armature has reduced the bridge load capacity with no more than 2%.

It won't stay that way now the columns are open to corrosion and other weather influences. Good thing they are repairing it.

It's disappointing to see the bridge columns above in such strumatic condition. I hope they do a good job on the repairs.

It is dissapointing the motorway has different lanes for the emergency lanes than for the driving lanes, very dissapointing.

Yes, it's very dissapointing that you can safely determine which lane is the driving lane and which the emergency one in any weather condition just by looking at the colour of the tarmac.

I'll post this here too, as it may be of interest to you.

Ponta: We must continue working on Bulgarian highway between Ruse and Bucharest

PM Victor Ponta said on Sunday, talking about infrastructure projects at the border with Bulgaria, that Romania will have to continue working on the Ruse-Bucharest highway and that the Calafat bridge will be finalized this year too, Mediafax writes.
Ponta was asked how he responded to the Bulgarian PM’s proposal to continue working on the Ruse-Bucharest highway, which in Bulgaria is built by a Qatar firm, in public-private partnership.

“I gave a positive response, I hope that this year we can finalize the Calafat bridge and it’s clear that from Craiova to Calafat, we need to improve infrastructure. The Bulgarians have started a project that will take several years, a highway to Ruse and we obviously have to do the rest of the job, to Bucharest,” Ponta said.

Bulgaria, Turkey and Qatar agreed a joint venture to build a 300 km highway from Ruse to Svilengrad, at the Greek-Turkish border. The highway will cross Bulgaria north to south, connecting the Romanian border to the Greek-Turkish border and is expected to cost about 750 million Euro.

Just a political statement for now ... no need to get excited too much ...

€ 750 million for a 300 kilometer motorway/expressway through several mountain ranges? That appears to be extremely unlikely to me.
