[QUOTE=tanashubav;93206860]А 34.3km. section of A1 Trakiya between Nova Zagora and Yambol (from km 241+900 till km 276+200) was opened for traffic today. So this is how motorway statistics looks like today:

I have a one question. When I going from Thrakia to Burgas, I must go to Sliven or Jambol. When I go ahead to Sliven, where I connect to road No.6. By map intersection between Road 53 and Road 6 is for direction from Trakia to Sliven only. Thanks

Right now the road between Sofia and Kalotina is in excellent condition, but what I can't get so far is why Bulgaria doesn't start constructing a motorway there. It wouldn't be more than 50 kilometers, and motorway from Serbian side will be fully finished quite soon (in a scope of 2 years, depending which section). Wouldn't be interest of Bulgaria to connect there, as in that case one could have full motorway profile road to all western/central European areas, also being the shortest link compared with alternative no-motorways routes through Romania? Are any news/plans about that in Bulgaria right now?

There have been indications that the tender for E-80 will be let within a few months but nothing has been set in stone yet. After the tender it should take no more than 2 and a half to 3 years to have it completed. My guess is that it should be done by the end of 2014 or the beginning of 2015. Now for the bad part. A law was passed that defined a new type of national road that has all the characteristics of a motorway except for the lack of emergency lanes and a lower speed limit - 120 km/h instead of 140 km/h and that's the type of road E-80 west of Sofia is going to be.

thanks for the info.

interesting info for speculations about it. obviously, imposed low legalizes cheaper roads and possibility to be presented from politicians like a motorway-like ones. I hope it will have de-levelized intersections and wider curves for planned speed, otherwise it would be just another better road, i guess.

same type of roads in ex Yu were known as 'brza cesta', they aren't so bad, but still, I can't catch what the point of constructing cheaper and less useful road on a strech of only 50 or so kilometers, where terrain isn't too hard at all (mostly not), when the rest of the roads connecting to it are internationally important and quite busy, yet motorways.

I guess the idea is to bring a project that will convert 4 lane wide road from Slivnica to Sofia ringroad into this new type of a road. Saves would be tremendous, and politicians could still rely upon illusion that a motorway-like road is built.

but these are only my opinions. anyway, can't wait for a day to speed up from Nis to Sofia all the way on motorway or similar. I guess it could be possible (for a motorbike, so no border delays like for cars) that with solid 120-130km speed, the whole trip lasts no more than 1 hour 15min, which would be awesome.

You could go bothways. Currently I-6/II-53 junction is widened to handle new transport situation. Beside if you go to Yambol you have another two options -
1)go to I-6 using I-7 through Zimnitsa
or
2)if you are going to our South Black Sea resorts use II-53 to Sredets and II-79 to Burgas and use brand new Meden rudnik junction.

Are there any petrol stations on the new section of the Trakiya motorway between Stara Zagora and Yambol? And between Karbonat and Burgas?

Changes in the road law make the use of headlights all the time mandatory. Till now it was mandatory 24h only from November to March. It was voted today in parliament.

I suppose you ask about Sofia-Kalotina (Gradina) road... current plans are for an expressway (motorway standards except hard shoulder, which can be added later), but it will be in next EU-financial period - after 2014. Since the changes of the road law, maximum speed on motorways is now 140 km/h and on expressway - 120 km/h.

Do new cars equipped with Daytime Running Lights have to turn on their (low beam) headlights then? When will the new law be in effect?

And any progres on the small section beyond Shumen?

Exactly, DRLs are fine.

I believe that they are still closed, so expect delays. As for the new section, the construction should start in August.

Това черното на основният път не е асфалт, а е само тънък слой смола преди асфалтирамето.

До 1 август едва ли ще успеят с асфалта, табели, мантинели, маркировки, огради и ...... Но когато успеят.

Most of it (LOTs 1, 2 and 4) in the coming 2 or 3 years, but the part Blagoevgrad-Sandanski (LOT 3) is for the next euro-funding period 2014-2020. LOTs 1 and 4 are already in construction and 3 is being tendered.

Watched serbian road patrol from Nis to Greek seaside via Bulgaria. So I want to know what's more important in terms of corridors, Sofia to Calfatat bridge or Sofia - Greek border?
