Seems that the standard of living and salaries are 2 times higher in Calafat.
They have couple of big investments. (Italian clothing factory in which some 3000 people work..)
Local agriculture production is higher, even demographically speaking calafat is much better than vidin ...

I have big doubts that Calafat has the standard of living twice than in Vidin. In a clothing factory they could earn maybe 200- 250 Euro net monthly. Calafat is a poor city, the lady from the City Hall just tried to be proud of her city.

Calafat is a poor city relative to other cities in Romania, but from what I've seen it's quite a neatly kept town.

the guy in the reportage said 425 eur for calafat against 250 for vidin (on paper)... I don't know how he came with those numbers, but this is average salary including gov sectors ... in reality if we assume you are right: 250 eur for calafat against 125 eur for vidin (I personally think is the real number) which again is twice the amount ...

There's a huge tendency in BG to overcritisize everything bulgarian. Don;t forget that there's probably quite a serious grey sector in Vidin.

Still, the bottom line is that Calafat is a bit more well-developed and looks a bit richer. I enjoyed the most the roma woman who said that she produces garlic and sells it on the market.

EUR 425 on paper means about EUR 250 net so I think it's not far from the truth. That's the average income for the textile industry here.

This is off-topic so I don't want to argue about it.

Main thing about the bridge is that the transit traffic will prefer going through Serbia IMHO. Because there are no motorways in the north-west and the vidin-montana road is just 1 lane in each direction. And montana-vratsa is almost 1 lane in each direction too.

There are rumours about the taxes collected when crossing too: 6 eur for a car no matter of the passengers inside. I don't know about the lorries ? Maybe 20 eur or somethin? Passengers and bicycles crossing should be free(again not official). There is another rumour that the vehicles registered in Calafat and vidin will cross for free? Borisov said that they reached an agreement with Ponta about the company operating the bridge will be registered in Sofia.

Time shall determine who is right. IMHO the bridge will have a significant impact. Otherwise serbians wouldn't have almost bankrupted their country to build a motorway fro HU to MK and BG. They are not stupid.

The Bridge is the catalyst for traffic growth in this area!

(There is no point in building motorways FIRST,causing a massive "Bottleneck" on both sides of the Danube).

The decision on WHEN to build the motorways(funded by the EU),will be based on the traffic growth it incurrs. If demand is high, then the motorways will be constructed quicker!

But it is based on gsm-devices moving between it's cells, so it isn't quite accurate. For example having 30 people waiting the bus on a bus-stop will probably make the map show a traffic jam at the junction where the bus stop is.

Don't be so sure that's how the map data gets collected. On the upper-right corner it says "powered by be-mobile" http://www.be-mobile.be/

That just means the software/technology is taken from this company
Interesting... This just proves how a cell phone can reveal your location within kms
And I don't understand how this can be accurate ? maybe in a big town where the density of the cells is bigger , but that's about it ...
