And two photos of the interchange near Karnobat, opened for traffic last week.

First one - look to the west towards Yambol!

Good news for the future expressway Vidin-Botevgrad, part of IV Pan-European Corridor. A tender for design of ~69km sections b/n Ruzintsi and Vratsa is announced.

Most important is that the parameters of the expressway are very close to a motorway w/o the emergency lanes: design speed 120km/h; 2x2x3.75m.

Interesting news. I'll repost it on the Romanian forum if you don't mind.

Of course, I don't mind.

Also, the Road Agency (API) announced that tomorrow they'll open the bids for another tender - the tender for design of the Vidin-Ruzhintsi expessway. That 58 km section also will be 2x2x3.75m, 120 km/h design speed (with the exception of ~9km near Vidin, which will be with design speed of 80km/h, 2x2).

Probably Vidin-Vratsa expressway will be u/c after 2014. The bypasses of Montana and Vratsa will be u/c in 2013 - please correct me if i'm wrong. However, the bypass of Vratsa will not be expressway, but 1x1 road...

Hello!

I watched the news from Romania as the border between Romania and Bulgaria is closed due to blocked roads in Bulgaria caused by snow and bad weather.

I want you to tell me a site where I can see the roads in Bulgaria.

My parents leave tomorrow by bus from Romania to Greece and do not want to remain stuck on the roads in Bulgaria because of the snow and bad weather.

Thank you very much!

here you go http://www.api.government.bg/index.p...B5%D0%B6%D0%B0

information is in bulgarian only (shame on the road agency) but with Google translate you should be getting easy what it is about ... it is regularly updating though and you should also check it tomorrow before your parents leave, because situation changes rapidly.

I heard that the worst is in varna region where all infrastructure is being closed down.
On tv they said that if you don't have to, don't travel to the north-east until tomorrow afternoon...

Thanks.

This is interesting because Bulgaria started tendering on CIV "South" as we call it here, to make it distinct from C IV "North" (currently U/C).

We were discussing on the Romanian forum about the timely construction of C IV south, and we concluded that Romania and Bulgaria should build it at the same time to inhance the Vidin-Calafat bridge usage, but didn't expect Bulgaria to start works so soon. On the other hand, the Road Authority has its own priorities here, which started moving away from C IV South with the new government. While it was mentioned until spring as an important target of the coming EU funding cycle, with the new government it does not appear in the coming 4 years motorway focus. Maybe the fact that Bulgaria started tenders will make them review their approach of C IV South, we'll see.

I've just answered you on the Romanian Motorway thread: that is absolutely not true!

We have an ongoing tendering procedure for Fesabilty Study (design!) for the South Motorway Bucharest - Alexandria - Craiova - Drobeta Turnu Severin - Lugoj, out of which Craiova - Lugoj is part of CIV South! So why would you say we're "moving away from CIV South" ?!

If everything goes well with the Qatar project, we might see serious development on both CIV and CIX in BG.

Interesting development around Struma motorway [A3](A6 on map). The most daunting 64km section Blagoevgrad - Sandanski that was planned to be tenderred at once will be divided into three parts:
3.1 Blagoevgrad - Krupnik(includes Bansko interchange and 2.5km tunnel)
3.2 Krupnik - Kresna(includes 13km tunnel)
3.3 Kresna - Sandanski
Total estimated cost: 1bln euro
