Btw, Varna-Sumen is motorway or expressway?
Varna-Shumen is a motorway in service.

Top priority in 2014-2020 according to many official statements is lot 3 of A3 Struma (with the 13km tunnel). Next comes section of A2 Hemus from Yablanitsa to Veliko Tarnovo, which is confirmed to be a EU financed motorway. For Tarnovo-Shumen nothing is sure - they are talking of expressway, not motorway, but even so, no financing is secured.

Tunnel would be 2x2.
I cannot understand why the number of AADT is higher at 3.2 Krupnik-Kresna comparing to 3.1 Blagoevgrad - Krupnik, where the transit traffic to the ski resort Bansko as well as to other towns such as G.Delchev is included!

Thanks.
In your opinion, which section is going to be bulit first- Trnovo-Ruse, or Trnovo-Sumen?
Terrain for Hemus is very building-friendly, so it shouldn't be a problem.
What about Crno more and passing Balkan near Nesebar?

It's too early to say. Both are important. There is a possibilty that Svilengrad-Tarnovo-Ruse will be built as a PPP with Qatar. Talks are still going, but I don't rely much on this PPP. However, the Road Agency tendered a feasibility study for it. We'll see what will happen.

As for the Cherno More - it's on the bottom of priorities. According to CEO of the National Company for Strategic Infrastructure Projects (google tranlate):
Quote:
Regarding the "Black Sea" is a critical issue of finding funding for the project. But we can say that this route is relatively new and good research base. The project was prepared with the idea of construction can be financed with public funds, which are currently not available. If you are looking for a private investor or a public-private partnership should make new studies to determine consumers' willingness to pay for use of the infrastructure. Another need is to prepare reliable estimates of traffic. Currently available, the indicators are not bad, but not accounted for the introduction of a fee, and this will radically change data. Work on the highway "Black Sea" and yet it is difficult to give more specifics.

A lot of Greek tourists also visit Bansko, that could be partially an explanation...

@mman2012. I think that the sections coloured red and yellow, are going to be constructed in the future, and they haven't started yet.

No, A4 (Maritsa) is the motorway from Chirpan (junction with A1) to the turkish border at Kapitan Andreevo.

That makes sense.... thanks; only that from what I can find on Wikipedia that was called A3 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Bu...network_en.svg) and A4 was Burgas - Varna

Someone should "repair" this wikipedia page, as recently there was official government motorway re-numeration which finally cleared the ongoing for decades mess with them

So they are:
A1 Trakiya (Sofia-Plovdiv-Chirpan-Burgas)
A2 Hemus (Sofia-Yablanitsa...Shumen-Varna)
A3 Struma (Pernik-Blagoevgrad-Kulata/Greece)
A4 Maritsa (Chirpan-Kapitan Andreevo/Turkey)
A5 Cherno more (Varna-Burgas)
A6 Lyulin (Sofia-Pernik)

There are also speculations that the stretch Sofia-Kalotina/Serbia will be numered A7

Actually the road I-9(~2.5km) between Sarafovo and Pomorie is being widened to 2x2. There are plans to widen I-9 section Burgas - Sunny Beach. This project might postpone Cherno more motoway[A5] as it runs further inland from the coast.
