Ah, ok, so it's 3x the estimations. Still find the numbers small. Do you have any figures for freight traffic, especially TIR traffic?

Northern Speed Tangent highlighted in red

Yesterday a court decision of the Surpreme Court ruled that the Italian consortium has to be disqualified due to documentation irregularities. The case is returned to the Roads Agency for a new decision. If they don't cancel the procedure, probably a Bulgarian counsortium will win with a price offer of ~76.69 M euro w/o VAT.

Pics from the reconstruction of Kapitan Andreevo border crossing to Turkey - one of the bussiest in Europe and maybe all over the world.

I've seen that claim frequently, and I don't know where it comes from. The actual traffic volumes at that border crossing is only a few thousand vehicles per day. Actual passenger count is higher due to the number of buses, but it is still much lower than what you see in western Europe, where there are numerous border crossings in the 40 000 - 65 000 vehicles per day range.

I was just going to mention that this clam appears to be dubious. The distinction of being the busiest border crossing in the world goes to the San Ysidro Port of Entry between San Diego and Tijuana. It appears to carry about 10 times more traffic than "Kapitan Andreevo - Kapikule"

http://www.kgm.gov.tr/Sayfalar/KGM/S...ionSurvey.aspx

According to KGM the traffic count on D100 between the Bulgarian border and Edirne was 5.800 vehicles per day in 2012. To compare, the San Ysidro border crossing near San Diego / Tijuana carried 73.000 vehicles per day in 2011, 12.5 times more than Kapitan Andreevo.

Yes there have a lot more busiest border crossings in western Europe but they are between EU(schengen) countries. Does anyone know which one is the busiest EU external border crossing ?

EDIT: EU and schengen

The UK - Spain border strikes me as being rather busy (a lot of cross-border workers and masses of tourism who mostly get there by land).

However it doesn't count in this game, as it is an internal EU border, while not internal Schengen.

Ditto the Channel Tunnel, which has about the same vehicle traffic from what I can make out.

Before entering Croatia to EU, bordercrossing Obrežje (SLO-HR) had about 9000 vehicles per day (and this number will surely rise substantially in following years) - I say that because significant amount of transit traffic actually arrives to Kapitan Andreevo

It does count as it's still not in the EU. Same with Norway, and incoming and outgoing freight still has to be declared at the border.
