Only around 1,300 vehicles per day. The bridge needs to be "discovered" yet.

As you say, "such pieces of infrastructure need 5-6 years to fulfill their potential".

Besides, there are three more bottlenecks to be handled on bulgarian teritory:
1. Vratsa bypass - U/C
2. Montana bypass - U/C
3. Vidin - Ruzhintsi(Dimovo bypass) - under design

Corridor IX I-5 Ruse - Byala 9000 vehicles daily according to traffic police data. 3000 out of them are trucks. That means 18000AADT.
Which is more, again according to them, than traffic on A2 Hemus motorway Veliko Tarnovo - Varna.

9,000 vehicles per direction with 33% heavy traffic?

Meanwhile, most of the design works for lot 3 (Blagoevgrad-Sandanski) of A3 Struma motorway are ready. The tenders for the construction are expected to be announced in 2014.

Per both according to source. 33% truck traffic is quite plausible for this road.

In fact according to this fresh presentation the projected length of the tunnel has increased from 13.2km to 15.5km, making it the second longest motorway tunnel in the world or 4th longest road tunnel in the world*.

I would rather have a solution with comination of tunnels and viaduct or the motorway passing through the hills and thus decresing much more travelling times. Unfortunately, neither EC nor political parties here want to rethink this madness.

Edit: According to plans tenders for 3.1(Blagoevgra-Krupnik) and 3.3(Kresna-Sandanski) would be announced in 2014 and tender for 3.2(Krupnik-Kresna or the tunnel) would be announced in 2015(highly unlikely).

*I can't find info about Jingpingshan tunnel in Chine which is longer than 15.5km and would make Kresna tunnel 3rd among twin tube motorway tunnels and 5th among road tunnels.

Depending on when it opens, it will be the 9th - 5th longest road tunnel in the world. By 2023, there will be 8 tunnels longer than 15.5 km and 5 of those will be motorway tunnels.

2023 tunnel length;

* Boknafjord Tunnel, Norway 26.5 km (2x2) 2023
* Lærdals Tunnel, Norway 24.5 km (1x2) 2000
* Yamate Tunnel, Japan 19.3 km (2x2) 2014
* Fehmarnbelt Tunnel, Denmark-Germany 18.2 km (2x2) 2021
* Zhongnanshan Tunnel, China 18 km (2x2) 2007
* Jingpingshan Tunnel, China 17.5 km (2x1) 2011
* Gotthard Tunnel, Switzerland 16.9 km (1x2) 1980
* Tunnel Stockholm Bypass, Sweden 16.5 km (2x3) 2023
* Kresna Tunnel, Bulgaria 15.5 km (2x2) 20??

Would it be one of the 5 tunnels collectively called the Wuqianling Tunnels on the G30 expressway. Located here. ???

No, it's an access road to the new Jinping Dam in southwestern Sichuan. It's the tallest dam in the world. It is a twin-tube tunnel, but only one lane each way. OSM or Gmaps do not display this road. It's also the second-deepest tunnel in the world (maximum 2375 m below the surface).

Thank you for your information. I think all those wonderful projects deserve a thread in a new section(i.e. "Tunnels") under the General Developments and Discussions section.

PS: Northen Europe rocks!
