Waiting time at the border? Any details on that?
I'll be there on Saturday morning

These delays are unacceptable for European countries. Bulgaria should join the Schengen as soon as possible!

This is a small local crossing. It wasn't meant for hordes of tourists.

Are there separate lanes for EU and non-EU passengers ? Probably if there were separate lanes, there would be jams only on the non-EU lanes ... Just guessing.

Where are all these tourists going anyway? If you enter Greece at Makaza, you'll end up at Komotini. Is that coast so popular?

yes Thassos, opening the checkpoint reduced time and distance between Romania and Greece

way is much easier and straight up to open Makaza, Romanian tourists chose custom Zlatograd (it was quite difficult and narrow road) or Svilengrad - Ormenio

Zlatograd is okay on Bulgarian side but in Greece it's a very narrow mountainous road where you have to drive very slowly and it's frankly scary. Also, without GPS you can easily get lost.

From Svilengrad you have to drive all along the Greece-Turkey border and takes a long time.

Of course, more border crossings are needed but because of historical and now economic (Greek side reluctant) reasons, it's always a pain to open them.

Yes, it's quite nice and within driving distance. Also, hardly any Westerners

Also, it makes driving to Thessaloniki easier.

A ~6km section of Sofia ring road, western arc, has been retendered after the previous tender had been cancelled. Part of it is the interchange with the Northern Sofia Bypass motorway.

Also, a ~32km section of the Botevgrad-Vidin expressway, b/n Botevgrad and Mezdra, has been tendered.

Will the 5km A4 section b/n Generalovo and Kapitan Andreevo really be opened on Monday?

The minister is planned to inspect the works that day. The press release doesn't say anything about a new section opening though.

Probably no, though in the last weeks the border checkpoint was closed twice for laying asphalt. Maybe next month.

Also, lot 1 (Orizovo-Dimitrovgrad) of A4 is delayed again. The new deadline is in March 2015.

The deadline for the reconstruction of the checkpoint is 30.06. As you know the new section between the border and Generalovo is waiting for the reconstruction to finish.
However, this report says that there is a lot of work and the deadline seems unrealistic.

It only says the minister will inspect the works on other sections of Maritsa motorway[A4] that are currently U/C:
- lot 1 A1 - Dimitrovgrad
- lot 2 Dimitrovgrad -Harmanli.
