I'm counting the deadline from the construction permit.
Any news about the completion of the western Sofia ring road project?

Sorry for bothering but is there any news about the estimated opening of the A4 section at the border?

A map of the roads with most accidents(the numbers on the map). It is a little bit dated and numbers 1 and 2 are not in the list of dangerous roads any more thanks to the opening of the full lenght of Trakia motorway.

The Kresna Gorge Tunnel will be the largest road tunnel project in Europe between now and 2020....maybe even 2040. It will also be ( by a loooong way) the longest Full Motorway tunnel in Europe with 4 lanes when completed. I would be amazed were it finished by 2020 but the rest of the Struma will probably be done by end 2017 leaving a single 20km gap for a few years thereafter.

There are some long 'motorway' tunnels in the Alps but they only have 2 lanes, one lane each way, and are serious bottlenecks every summer.

The longest full motorway tunnels in Europe are the c.10km long Plabutsch and Gran Sasso tunnels and the Kresna Gorge tunnel will be 50% longer that the Plabutsch or Gran Sasso tunnels are.

It will be built in one go as well ( AFAIK that is ) , those other two were originally single lane each way tunnels where a second bore was added later.

I wouldn't get too excited about that

The construction of the 18 km motorway tunnel under the Fehmarn Belt between Denmark and Germany starts in 2015.

The construction of the 16.5 kilometer Stockholm Bypass Tunnel (2x3 lanes) starts soon.

Norway is close to finishing the designs for a 26 kilometer twin-tube undersea tunnel called Rogfast.

Sorry Chris , I thought that wa a rail tunnel

I thought some green nutters had kyboshed both the western outer bypass (2x3) and the missing east bit of the existing ring. That western bypass will probably be the longest motorway tunnel in Europe if they can deal with the nutters.

Will that not be in three or four sections ? at least one of them floating underwater in a fjord???

Can't help but doubt these projects will become reality soom
Both in Bg and Ro there are major issues with such difficult projects (even starting them and assuring some sort of start financing is an issue....)
But let's hope for the best

Well, the financing is secured by the EU funds 2014-2020 and A3 Struma motoway is a top priority. A new state-run company was founded to handle with lot 3 of Struma and they've done a lot of preparations - design, geology works, etc.

However, IMO this project is rather expensive for BG (estimated costs for the Kresna gorge tunnel are for ~562 M euro) and instead they could build many km of motorways in the flat. A km in the flat is priced 2-3 M euro.

Is Hemus any kind of priority for the years to come, 2014-2020? (I mean beside the small section already under construction)
