Upgrade of the Sofia Ring Road. The construction works at Slivnitsa blvd I/C are at the final stage.

More by Senna: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showth...88547&page=912

The good news is that the next section of the western arc, b/n Slivnitsa blvd and the Northrn Bypass, has received a permit for construction.

The problem Bulgaria now faces is that after the newly completed highways this year and the Northern bypass of Sofia (L=16km) next year, we won't have new highway sections in the next at least 2 years. A significant gap is being created since new highway construction will start next year (we hope cca. 110 km), but they will not be ready in the next 2-3-4 years.

Is it still expected/likely to be opened this month?

?: Kakach river – Lyulin (A6) 3.0km (September 2012 to October 2015) – projectmap

Is there any useful numbering of the road? A6 or I18 or ...?

Is there a project page with more info about the exact length etcetera?

Will there be a full (and grade-separated) clover-leaf interchange with the Sofia Northern Speed Tangent? Is the interchange part of the SNST project or of the western arc project? Is the future Kalotina motorway planned to begin at this interchange? Is it planned to build all ramps of the clover-leaf interchange although if the Kalotina motorway will not yet be under construction?

I guess it has to signed ІI-18, as this is the number of Sofia Ring Road. Generally, II stands for second-class roads, I - for first-class, III - third-class, A is for motorways.

It will be grade-separated, with dual carriageway (even with additional local carriageways b/n Kakach river and SNST), so you can add it to your great list

It's somehow tricky with the project page, as so far the contract is not signed or at least there is no official announcement for that. The total length is 5.5 km (from km +0.780 to km +6.309). Here's the documentation at RIA, and the permit at the ministry of regional development. All in Bulgarian and pdf files, unfortunately.

For the ring road only:
Green is 2 or more lanes in each direction and grade separated express lanes.
Red is one lane in each direction.

That looks quite good actually. Until when is it scheduled to upgrade the whole ring? Maybe Sofia ring will be the first completed ring road in CEE (since Budapest-ring is clearly doomed).

The 2 remaining sections of the southern arc are scheduled to be financed by loans. Here´s an article about the Mladost - A1 motorway section.

The eastern arc needs to be rehabilitated, plus one bridge to be built nearby Kazichane.

The northern arc is not planned for upgrade in the near future. Instead, the so called Northern Speed Tangent, which is situated closer to the city, is already in construction.

Does anybody know, when the last part of the A4 Highway will be opened?
I think this should be almost now in October or?

That is because Bulgaria has built most of the roads that qualify for EU finding and is scampering to open sections in October 2015 to qualify for the old near 100% funding as long as they are usable this month.

Thereafter future major highways are Bulgarian ( not EU) priorities other than towards Calafat and will not be EU funded apart from that road and the Kresna Gorge section of the A3. Bulgaria is a bit unlucky here, the A2 Motorway should be also be EU funded IMO.

Our famous PM, Mr. Borisov, just said: "We will inaugurate Struma on Thursday, and Maritsa on Friday."

Sunday is election day, don't forget to vote. Welcome to the Balkans

Lots of elections going on these days... Switzerland, Canada, Spain, Poland, Bulgaria. All trying to appease voters with infrastructure.

Sofia ring road. The A6-Kakach river section of the western arc will be inaugurated tomorrow (together with Dupnitsa-Blagoevgrad of A3).

RIA has signed the contact for another section of the ring road, Kakach river-Sofia Nothern Bypass.

I think the section from Dupnitsa to Blagoevgrad is closer to 40 km in length? LOT 2 is 37 km, but another segment of LOT 1 was already completed from the Dupnitsa North interchange, but could not open until LOT 2 opens tomorrow. It is nearly 3 km long.
