So in the end, google Maps fixed now the new part from the A1 interchange with the A4, until Dimitrovgrad and it works, to make a route on that part.

Google Maps has updatet it

Interesting solution at the moment of the government.

Hmm
Because it is supposed to have pretty low traffic. However, they have recently designed the missing connection and it is awaitting financing.

Well yes, there are more kilometers in Bulgaria that in Roumania, but that is not a big surprise. Only at the end of last year we had the lead.
But we sure have much more kilometers on different building stages (more than 320 km) and a lot more planned. So your lead is in jeopardy.

Indeed, only the Nothern Bypass of Sofia remains under construction.

In the related news, we can expect a contract for lot 3.1 of A3 to be signed soon, as Strabag decided to withdraw from the tender. Also, a tender for Zelezhnitsa tunnel, which with its 2 km will be the longest motorway tunnel in BG, has been anounced. The price of the tunnel and its connecting roads is estimated at 250 million levs (128 million euro).

The tender procedure for 2 lots of A2 also continues and we expect the openning of the price bids.

Well, we shall compare the highways per 1000 people or per square km :P

Well, a lead in absolute number of kilometres is not really significant...
Comparing it by km/area or km/people or km/car is more meaningful (though also sometimes wrong) - and in all of those, Romania is at 50% or even ffar less than Bulgaria....

So, I'd say the lead is not in jeopardy for a really long time

First message from Gubot was about numers of kilometers and only about that.

Off course that any other comparison won't put Roumania ahead. Maybe the quality is slightly better, but since our mentanence is very low that advantage vanish in the first year of existence .

Serbia will sneak past Bulgaria ( if Bulgaria is ahead now) as they are not constrained by EU procurement rules and can get the Chinese to finance and build big lumps at a time.

Romania signed no Motorway contracts at all this year that I know of. Amazing given the amount of Cohesion funds available and the huge need for modern high capacity roads in Romania.

While Bulgaria still has a lot of Expressway to build the remaining planned Motorway network is only around 400km (most in the NE Quadrant of Bulgaria and on the Sofia Bulgaria - Serbian border section) together with the short but very expensive Kresna Gorge tunnel on the Sofia - Thessaloniki route. The section is short, the tunnel is not. At least the EU will pay for that one.

Importantly Bulgaria has connected its 1st and 2nd largest cities by Motorway some years back and nearly the 3rd and 4th with the 1st and 2nd too. Greece and Romania haven't.

Well Greece did connect the 4 largest cities(Athens, Larissa, Thesaloniki and(maybe) Patra, i'm not sure). Well, there are like 1400 km of motorways in Greece and a deal more(560 or what) are under construction(without Cyprus). So in comparison with Bulgaria Greece did better job than Bulgaria and even Romania(maybe cause too much €funds was poured into Greece)

That's not true, there are two signed contracts, but both of them probably are going to be canceled (60+km between Surplacu and Bors on A3 and something like 17 km half-profile, part of A7, Bacau overpass). Also there a number of contracts signed last year where construction didn't start (mostly on A3 between Turda and Targu Mures) because our government have choosed not to invest in infrastructure and to raise wages for public sector (bad decision, but...).

But now he have a new government, so maybe 2016 will be once again a good year for road infrastructure.

Well all of these countries have a lot of catching up to do, so the current situation is noting to be very proud of. The main thing for Bulgaria now is to start those 100 km of new highways next year (A2 and A3), but maybe also the first section of A7 to the Serbian border.

Wow, the progress on the northern tangent of Sofia is amazing! I just hope it doesn't compromise quality.

It is looking likely that roughly 10 km stretch of the Northern Speed Tangent will be opened for Christmas. The rest in 2016.
