There are signs about some stretches saying "2009" on that map ... and that end dates will probably be extended to 2010-11...12 ... or god knows when!

Has anyone seen the googleearth pics of the Struma motorway, you emidiatelly see that it´s a very different motorway with very different fresh looking asphalt. The asphalt is not black like some new motorways, it is more like grey and brown like slovenian motorways and it still looks amazing. The Struma motorway is the only great motorway in Bulgaria, it just must be cleaned from the dust and grass and then it will shine as on the first day with the incredible look. It´s the bestest motorway.

Colors in Google Earth say nothing. The pictures are taken black/white and colored in later. At least, that's what I read on that GEarth blog.

If it would get cleaned it would look as amazing as in the beginning, it is like a beautiful innocent european looking child whereas the other roads are anything but european.

I have to admit that it is the first time I ever heard a Motorway being compared with "a beautiful innocent european looking child".

What would then Trakia and Hemus be...? Ugly and naughty children of non-european descent...?

Not so much of it can be seen in GE. I see the route of the E79 is already marked along the motorway, but it's painted yellow, not red, or at least orange. Was the Struma motorway just added to the already existing road, or it has a completely new route? I'd think the latter...

It was added to the existing road, verso. It was only not added to the existing road from the Strao celo junction til dolna dykania which are the first 6 km starting from dolna dykania. I think the short stretch of old road was rehabilitated aswell and passes under the Struma motorway near dolna dykania, looks quite nice with a motorway and a national like road passing under the motorway.

and whether googleearth or some maps show it as a motorway or not is not important. The motorway meets al characteristics of european standart motorways and is even better. The emergency lanes are wider than most motorway emergency lanes, most junctions have very very long descenting lanes, except a few junctions the motorway has some of the longest descenting lanes, it even can be seen in google earth (they are 160 m long) so I don´t bother if google shows it as motorway or not.

Rhemaxos, yes because the motorway looks very different to anything in Bulgaria, it is like it shouldn´t be in Bulgaria, like someone carried it there by accident because it looks vrey different to anything else there. It´s the bestest motorway in Bulgaria.

Dutch decelerating lanes are often 250m adjacent to the through lanes and an additional 100 - 200m to the intersection.

Why that long, that could also be a runway that long, I think 160 m is enough to decelerate savely.

Because we experience far heavier traffic than any motorways in Bulgaria and exits can be jammed. That way the traffic jam does not immediatly blocks through traffic.

In googleearth it can be seen that all of the the bestest motorway lies on a bed which is higher than the surroundings, which motorway except that one does have it, I never expected the bestest motorway to look so great from above. it looks like a monorail track for highspeed trains on other planets, it´s just a masterpeace. I love it.

The lenght of a decelerating lane should ideally reflect the design speed on that specific Motorway section in order to allow smooth and safe braking. The faster the speed, the longer the lane.

BTW, are you using TEM design standards for Motorways in the Netherlands...?

And what about Bulgaria, Radi...? You are claiming Struma being superior to other Bulgarian Motorways. Why that...? It's geometry...? The quality of the materials...? It's proper execution...? Aren't the design standards the same...?

Edit:

I think this also answers my question.

The proper execution and especially it´s geometry, I don´t know of any other motorway at all which stays 10 - 20 m above the landscape for 25 km, I just love that. The qualtiy of materials, not sure, it could be that other Bulgarian motorways have the same quality but I don´t think so, I rather think they are desigining the asphalt and thickness of markings for each motorway differently, I´ve realiced this because some new nationalroads have very bad quality materials while others have very good, how is that possible. But especially the geometry of it is what I like most, it´s almost like a 25 km long bridge.
