Sort of wished they completely re-did the Han and had green overpass and put road under ground there. There's so much concrete there now.

Funny you mention that. I was talking with a colleague about the possibility of undergrounding the Olympic Expressway (alongside the river, I believe former mayor Oh Se Hoon proposed this?) to open up more public space. He was adamant it was a bad idea as he enjoyed looking at the river while he drove along the motorway.

Seems like there should be some kind of alternative; maybe they could just burry it in certain districts or areas, i.e. buried in Jamsil, Cheongdam-dong, level in Apgujeong-dong, buried in Yeouido, etc.

I've always thought that Seoul developed somewhat following an American paradigm--cars first, everything else second. There're just so many very wide streets, and of course the roadways completely consume valuable riverfront property.

Oh, great idea! Geeze, nothing like sitting in traffic trying to get from Lotte World onto the expressway and looking at the park.

I'm happy they are at least burying the road around the lake, at least that's the plan.

Whatever happened to the idea to make 6 expressways underground? I remember a plan few years back to make 2-3 going east-west and 2-3 going north to south, completely underground.

I have missed so much image updates in this thread. I personally like this building not to mention the good progress made so far.

Nice one for South Korea at this age of skyscrapers(age of skyscrapers is subjective though).

Just to think, two years ago I was walking down that street and there was little more than a giant whole in the ground surrounded by a fence. It'd be almost unrecognizable to me now.

Didn't really expect the department store and surrounding buildings to be so big. It's very impressive in stature already!

The last time we got a detailed picture of the top the building had 43 floors, which means it was 200 meters tall. Just enough to be a skyscraper

1998 Approved Lotte tower plan&design.
36floors(5basement) lol

Total 21 changed design.
Almost 20 years Two korean president opposite lotte tower's construction.

But Lotte Chairman who Mr shin kuk ho(my porfile piciture) didn't begin construction with 36floors.

He didn't give up his life dream for SKYSCRAPER in Seoul.
Even his son who Mr shin dong bin, opposite skysraper plan He directly said to his father "Don't make lotte tower. It is a absolutely crazy project base on economic feasibility. Father To make some 70 floors residence Rather than lotte super tower"

But Mr shin angry to his son said "Shut the xx up(my joke). Most tourist only traveling around Old palace and restraunt in Seoul. I know it is irrational economic feasiblility. But I want to show them Seoul's landmark. Money is meaningless to me"

What a great chair man he is...If without shin's dream, i would see only normal and boring 60floor residences. He is now 91 years Old

A great man indeed. I wish there would be more such developers in the world, who have a vision and who don't care just about delivering office or residential space to customers

Btw, what is being built is in my opinion the best design out of all the proposals
