If we should be really precise, this tower is 555.7m tall, so it's 556m and not 555m it's just one meter more but it's important for me lol

PS: I'm looking to convince Inno4321 to come back in this thread. I hope I can do it!

WARNING EXPLICIT CONTENT: Spider-Man Statue in Korea Taken Down for Having a MASSIVE Erection

First of all, sorry to everybody but...

Yup, this really happened in the Lotte project.

Quote:
Every playground designer has to ask themselves this question before they start: "Will this piece of playground equipment be construed as a ***** or butthole in any way?" Once the playgound is sketched out, it's then up to the designer to double check their work against human anatomy books to make sure there is nothing inappropriate being implied to these impressionable children.

So how did this statue of Spider-Man with an unmistakable erection get through the system?

Clearly great responsibility isn't the only thing that comes with great power.
Here it comes:

Quote:
The statue was made by Korean artist Eunsuk Yoo, and was displayed outside of Busan, South Korea's Lotte Shopping Center. As Kotaku reported, Yoo says he wanted the piece to "apply the natural physical phenomenon to a superhero [in order to] depict what's natural in the morning without lies and superficial-ness in a comical way".

So the basic idea of Yoo's piece is that he finds it weird that superheroes don't get boners in comics. Good thing he picked a building overlooking a playground to make that point. Of course parents were going to demand the statue be taken down (which Yoo decided to do, instead of modifying the piece). That's one of the first things artists have to learn — the context matters just as much as the art. Ren & Stimpy fan art won't work in the Louvre, just like the beauty of your oil paintings isn't captured in a punk rawk zine.

The story goes on much longer but that is not-so-important content.

Just to prevent any confusion: This has absolutely nothing to do with the Lotte Tower projects in Seoul or Busan.

The spiderman statue was hanging for one year on a random Lotte mall in Busan (there are dozens, if not hundreds of lotte malls in Korea).

The solar panels on top of the Shopping mall of LWT. (Produce up to 800KW of energy)
The complex was certified as a 'Green' Building by the international LEED standard (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design).

After the completion in 2016 the tower is expectd to be certified with the LEED Gold status.

Eco-friendly design is was very important for Lotte and KPF when designing the tower.

Are these photovoltaic panels? What a waste of money and energy. How can this be considered "eco-friendly"

it's proven that these panels cost a lot of energy to produce, even barely half of what the panel itself will produce in its lifetime, some people say. but i find it very unlikely although i understand the argument.

This was true 6-10 years ago.
Today's PV panels are much more efficient and the dangerous materials in them can be better recycled.

After a few years (depending on the technology used) they pay back the energy used for their production:

Quote:
... According to his study the time to offset the emissions created during production (the 'energy payback time' - EPBT) at 1.7 years to 2.3 years.

Similar studies differ slightly in their projections, but most point to the fact that solar panels are relatively quick to pay back the energy used in their production, and over the course of their lifespans generate many times this amount.

the right tower crane and the core crane went up

the left tower crane seems to stay low.
Because of safety measures the left tower crane will only operate in a very limited area:

the blue field is the area in which the left tower crane will operate. It will not move objects over the shopping mall, as a safety measure.

this is one of the safety measures that lotte applied, in order to get approval for opening the shopping mall.
