This is the landmark for a new-born Korea, stronger and more beautiful than before.
Just to think that 60 years ago, there was nothing but shanty houses and a poor economy, and now it is one of the richest and most powerful countries in the world, it's mind-boggling, like this tower, landmark of one of the greatest countries ever.

What is that, a water leak from the ceiling? A defect?

I didn't know the first floors was already opened by the way...

Pinta's only contribution on this thread (if not this entire forum) seems to be to belittle the project by posting update on "safety" issues without any context. I don't know if he hates Korea, Lotte Group, or if he just enjoys pissing people off...

This is taken from the adjacent building, The Lotte World Mall (part of the Lotte World Tower Project), which was completed in late 2014. This is apparently a leak, coming from the 3rd underground floor (probably the parking lot). So that's one small leak in a parking lot of one of the country (and world)'s biggest commercial building. Also, the weather has been extremely cold in Seoul and Korea these past few weeks, and especially this week end (the coldest in more than a decade), so having a pipe freeze or another one leaking up wouldn't be all that surprising with that weather...

I find it funny that someone can be obsessed with finding flaws like that. Pinta, when was the last time you went outside man?

Good news for the mall:

Quote:
Lotte Duty Free’s $3bn 555m World Tower duty free store in Seoul has won three globally recognised and prestigious design awards for the first time in the Korean duty free business.
But at the same time this is quite bitter:

Quote:
The retailer says it is the first duty free shop in Korea to win the Good Designs Awards prize,
although it should be said that celebrations related to this high recognition are doubtless a little less than normal,
considering Lotte actually lost its duty free licence back in November of last year.

Yes, indeed. But to bring in some more context, this doesn't mark the complete death of the Lotte World Duty Free. The company is considering moving its COEX duty free (only 3 subway stops away) to Lotte World Mall.

The COEX Duty Free is kind of weak. While Lotte World (supertall building, world's biggest indoor amusement park, luxury hotel, supermarket, two department stores, including the new one that is a jewel and has an aquarium, cinema and with the Concert Hall coming up in August) is Lotte's turf, COEX is very competitive and Lotte has little presence : COEX Mall, Convention Center, Hyundai Department Store, 7Luck Casino, Parnass Mall, multiple luxury hotels (COEX Intercontinental, Parnas Grand Intercontinental, Oakood Premier, Park Hyatt), it's even hard to notice the Duty Free, so this seems like a very reasonable move.

I might be wrong, but I think Lotte's COEX Duty Free license will expire at the end of the year and will be up for grabs. So I think that instead of trying to renew its current licence, Lotte will try to make a bid for the Jamsil Lotte World rather than the COEX existing duty free. So it might very well just be a 1-year hiatus before the Duty Free comes back to Lotte World Mall.

One thing about towers that smoothly taper like this one is that, from a ground-level perspective, even at a distance, they seem to go in forever.

Suffice to say, the Hyundai tower has some serious expectations to live up to.
