Lots of big cracks and the builder said everything is all right.

Btw I didn't knew this building will be across an amusements park.

I read about this problem a lot, large cracks that appear to not compromise a structure's integrity.

I'm not an engineer, but if the cracks are into the concrete that's enveloping the core, this shouldn't be a major problem since the core has a steel 'soul'.
On the other hand, if they enveloped steel with concrete, they had good reasons for doing that, therefore concrete cracks are the evidence that something went wrong, even if this couldn't compromise the strenght of the structure.
Anyway, cracks and integer structures are a contradiction in terms.

so construction still ongoing. Meanwhile Seoul goverment consider "safety inspection".

Hmmm hopefully it's really not an issue. I noticed in the article some of the comments mentioned Sampoong and Seongsu Bridge, but rest assured the same won't happen to Lotte!

If anything, I suppose an inspection will be done and construction will continue afterwards as usual.

Thx K2002. Nice shot. The crack basicaly shouldn't be a problem as long as they discover it earlier.

Don't forget it wasn't a deep crack. It's just on the outside.

My understanding of the article is that the cracks have appeared in the concrete enveloping the super-columns, not in the envelope of the core.

Apparently massive cracks are no problems but for other buildings surface chips missing are signs of imminent collapse. Hmm

Hello inno4321, since there is a small crack on Lotte World Tower, it does not affect the stability of the building or not??

As you know crack is due to outside problem(welding heat effect to concrete crack) rather than concrete problem.
I think concrete expanded by welding(outside iron panel) heat.

So officialy lotte said "no problem at all for stability"

However seoul goverment is going to more detail "inspection" concern crack.

Seoul reckon crack is no problem stability Therefore construction still going on.
If crack was critical then seoul goverment order to "STOP CONSTRCUTION" But they didn't..

In short, no problem with stablility.
